17hmr recommendations

I use the 17 grain Winchesters - super accurate in my Tikka T1X and (touch wood) I’ve had no issues and no split necks either. CCI 20 grain have also proven good but not quite as accurate.
You've been lucky I bought 100 Winchester yesterday and 85 were split , exchanged them today for Hornady and none split. Wont be using Winchester anymore.

I have a T1x that’s been chopped down to 16” and can’t fault it, trigger out of the box could be adjusted down to a hair over 1lb.

The biggest benefit was the ability to easily upgrade most parts depending on your want/desire. As I’ve said on other posts they have to same footprint as the T3 so stocks are interchangeable easily and if half decent (GRS for example) won’t even need bedding.

Not sure on where they sit within your budget but I reckon you’d be hard pressed to find a s/h one that’s been shot out as they haven’t been around all that long. Either that or save up and buy new knowing you can upgrade it as/when you want/need.

Have an Arnie 1517 Thumbhole deadly accurate, I have never found a split case ( In reality never looked for them) never miss feeds great calibre great rifle

sako quad light barrel it has had thousands of rounds through it and never a problem.
i run 20gr hornady and never a problem with one getting stuck and from memory less than a handful of duds.

I have a Ruger American that was quite affordable but very accurate and reliable, might be another option. I've never had any ammo problems other than with a CCI all copper load, they had OALs all over the place and actually broke the magazine. The 20 grain XTP is my load of choice but the 17 grain Vmax is great too. I killed a coyote at 70 yards with the 20 grain. I'm a big fan of the 17 HMR, feels like I'm shooting laser rifle.

It was a toss up between the .22LR or the 17hmr. The ricochet of the .22lr is less desirable then the odd split case.

To be honest shooting any calibre rifles or pistol whereupon it's an issue if they bounce means you should not be shooting there in the first place!

Found this thread while wondering the same question - what did you for for in the end @luke1989 ?

interested to hear if anyone has any thoughts on the T-Bolt or HW66 / 60

I have had Browning T bolts in .22 and 17hmr in the past, both great little rifles. Flush fit 10 round rotary mags, triggers can be heavy out the box but are adjustable. Barrels are made by Miroku.
I miss having a rimfire now, would get another T bolt as I like them.

Thanks Hammo. The farmer on one of my permissions has one in .22 and rates it. Didn't realise the triggers were adjustable

Still haven’t purchased on as of yet, iv purchased a sauer 101 in .308 instead as the permission I have for the 17hmr and .22 rim fire may be go up for sale soon so would really need one as I don’t have any more land. I have just seen a CZ 455 for sale for around £250

I had a 452 in .22 years ago, I'll probably end up going the CZ route again.
