Is The LANTRA Course Still Valid?

As per the title.
I wondered if the LANTRA qualification for humane dispatch is still valid ; due to the article in Emergency Services Times discussing Hampshire and Isle Of Wight constabularues getting together with 17 other forces regarding humane dispatch.
Has anyone heard anything?

It all depends on what force area you are in and if they adopt the model.Imsat on the Hampshire launch when it was pitched to UK forces and if your force area adopts the model the new qualification will be required as there Lantra lacks the practical and assessment element. It aims to professionalise and standardise the practice and I hope that my force adopt the model.

Thanks for the heads up.

The DMQ course is only a Hampshire prerequisite at the moment, other forces should they adopt for the Hampshire model may except another course.

Completed my Humane animal dispatch course through BDS it as a Lantra cert and as a exp date of15/05/2026.
Why should this have a expire date.
One course should be enough or is it a money maker.
Still have all my training book for a refresher course.

I did the LANTRA course - checked with Hampshire if it was valid and they said not. So I would have to do the BDS course in order to be considered for the HAD scheme in Hants.

I agree, but who knows what changes may, or may not, happen?

Will not be doing a second course on dispatch.
Do not think it is worth the cost . cost of course and a three hour round drive plus fuel cost all for five years.
AND then five years later££££££££££££££££££

To be fair to the DMQ this revamp of previous HAD training was led by the police, as they found all training courses lacking what they required the HADs to be trained in.

To all the naysayers look at is a personal development everyday is a school day, if you know it all then it’s time to find another hobby and start learning again.

Perhaps, but witno disrespect to the police, who are they to effectively imply they have a god like, indisputable knowledge of all subjects?
Yes, I understand this type of activity with roads etc being in the vicinity, is their thing, but beyond that, are they really any more experienced that highly knowledgeable shooting folk?

The police are more knowledgeable with dealing with the public and any law pertaining to HAD. The course isn’t just about dispatch of an animal, it is the everything else that comes with it. The course isn’t run by the police, but was developed with the police.
And if my memory is correct ( I haven’t done the course myself) the dispatcher works with the police, who will deal with the public and not dispatch on their own.
Somebody with more knowledge will correct me if I am wrong.

That's sounds correct to me. Thanks.

The police freely admit to not knowing everything. As @The Singing Stalker states being HAD for the police covers far more than just dispatch.
So as far as the new course goes there are parts developed by the police to cover their requirements, roadside, people management and awareness, traffic positioning and the rest. The dispatch side for things was rewritten by a team of very experienced HADs and deer managers already involved with the police scheme, all I might add did it for nothing as they are police volunteers.

That's good stuff.
