Vacancy: Volunteer humane animal dispatcher

'As and when required'?

'Volunteer'?

Get stuffed
At least they’re not insisting on you taking the latest HAD qualification at your own expense like one of their neighbouring forces is…

Question also whether being an HAD ‘volunteer’ would speed up your renewals? - why should it? you still have to have all the same checks as non HAD licence holder, so how could this be done faster for a ‘volunteer’ but not for rank & file licence holders?!

The advert does mention that you need a HAD qualification, and also mentions if you’d not have one you’ll have to undertake one at your own expense

Sorry ‘my bad’ - I didn’t bother reading the advert 🙄

Sorry to say too that as someone who has to pay for the services of their local police force, and by that I mean ALL the services they provide, as part of my council tax I am pleased on one hand that they are looking to reduce costs overall by ‘outsourcing’ HAD but I do think they’re taking the p1ss by expecting volunteers to pay to get qualifications. How difficult would it be to get a trainer in for a day & get any volunteers ‘qualified’ in one hit?

Surely it would be easier for TVP (and others) to train and equip their ARV crews with a moderated .410 magnum shotgun for HAD use?

Is there a need to be mean-spirited? To us, this is surely all about welfare of the individual deer and minimizing the time that it has to lie injured before its suffering can be ended. Whatever issues anyone might have with the Police, the deer aren't at fault.
Mean spirited?
They are asking for volunteers to do a job, doing this job will cost the volunteer money and time.

While on the other hand FAC holders are experiencing worse and worse levels of service from FLD and a massive licensing cost increase

Well done to all that apply,
A lot of negativity on this page about doing this volunteer work and its not for everyone I agree but if you won't to give something back to the deer and help with road safety and deer welfare then apply.
Stalkers/gamekeepers are much better placed and have much more experience in dealing with deer than AR police officers, they also have more tools the box for dispatch than AR officers,
As many of you will know the shotgun is probably the best tool for the job, many police forces have 12g shotguns at there disposal but are governed by the police collage about what they can use in the way of ammunition, double 0 buck and rifled slugs may not be safe in some settings! they can't use bird shot/safe shot or 410's like someone said.

You'd need to be pretty committed to be prepared to get out of bed at a moments notice and head off to God knows where, in God knows what weather. I'm afraid I can't think of a single positive reason why anyone would volunteer for this. Not one 🤔

Given the dedication to home brewing among members of this site, no-one would be sober enough to drive anywhere at a moment's notice anyway, and particularly not to a place where police are.
The home brewer needs time to plan ahead, as anytime from lunchtime onwards can be risky. (Or elevenses time, in hot weather).
