6.5x55 or 6.5 creedmoor

With these new laws coming in concerning lead I would be looking for a faster cartridge, copper needs speed to work so have a good look at a calibre that’s around the 3000fps
No it it doesn’t i’ve never loaded a copper bullet at 3000 ft./s and I’ve been loading copper a bloody long time

So have I!! Copper is design to open at speeds 18fps of faster.yer creed and 55 go out at 2700 so they run out of speed fast.
But as we all know that Creedmoor is a pointless calibre, so really I wouldn’t waste time loading copper for anyway😂😂

How many are brand new vs used?
The cm is the current darling of the rifle world and gunshots are pushing them hard, likely because they have bought up lots of units or committed themselves to the same.
It’s kind of like a field of dreams scenario - if you stock them then the customers will come!

How many 17hmr’s are for sale today? Can’t give them away as no one wants them, so is the 6.5cm possibly at risk of becoming the next hmr once the next new fangled chambering is launched and all the cool kids want one in place of their creedy?
530 new CM.
60 New Sweed.

There are also double the amount of Second hand CM then Sweed.

Both calibers do pretty much the same thing. It's just the CM does it in a shorter action. The natural progression of things seems to be towards a shorter action.

The other thing is we are such a small part of the firearms market. Ultimately we will follow the US as it's the biggest market. The CM is still very popular over there. I can't see it going anywhere anytime soon .

But your gonna have to with the lead ban in everything except your .22’s😂 if I was on Muntys and Chinese i would use fast twist .22.250 all the time or a fast twist .223. But on bigger feed obviously need a different approach

Nah 7x57 works never felt the need to use a peashooter, before that 270 with a properly loaded copper bullet damage was minimal👌

So have I!! Copper is design to open at speeds 1800 FPS of faster.yer creed and 55 go out at 2700 so they run out of speed fast.
Factory Sako Blades out of mine would get out to around 450 yards before they dropped below that threshold?

It's far enough for most I think 😂

What calibre? I know my .22.250 maxes out at 400 going 3480 FPS with 55 grn ttsx my .270 maxes out at 500 and it’s going 3065fps with 129 grn Barnes lrx and my 7mm rem mag maxes out at 750 going 3180 fps with 139 grn Barnes lrx. The blade bullet might be softer than Barnes I dunno? I’ve never bought factory ammo for 20 years.

Whatever u get get a 24” barrel that’s the best compromise between practicality and velocity

The advantage of the 6.5CM over the 6.5x55 (amongst other things) is the higher operating pressure. 20" 6.5CM easily produces over 2700fps with 140gr. Even with a few hundred bar spare. 6.5x55 shooters often seem to run the cartridge on the ragged edge. It does have a much lower max pressure and brass is made to that spec. There is no +P 6.5x55 brass that I know of.
I think many were forced to use the 6.5x55 in northern countries because it was the army issue, a competition standard and maybe ammo was kept cheap in certain areas. We only see how much it was disliked after introduction of the 6.5CM. I thought one big reason would be the AICS magazines that seem to push people from 55 to CM but now we have medium AICS magazines and it doesn't help x55 out of the grave either. MDT have a solution for AICS type magazines and mag systems in 284 win length that fit into a Tikka CTR stock and could take 6.5x55 or 284 Win..... we have not had one taker yet for 6.5x55. Similar with Rem clones types, Medium actions are so slow selling that magazine system manufacturers and custom action manufacturers are talking about dumping them. Rather run the mediums on long actions and make a mag system with medium magazine on long action floor plate.

Last time I looked shorter wasn’t better 😉

Is it my imagination or are the people who think 7x57 is the ideal elephant cartridge the same ones who think 6.5 Creedmoor makes deer fell better when you shoot them with it …

It's the 6 of two three's. Almost flip a coin. I have the Swiss and am very happy with it, I did for a while wish id got the creed for the only reason of availability of factory ammo is regularly more available. I now re load for the Swiss and quite happy in carrying on with it. If I was to apply now knowing what I know, I would choose a creed for the only one reason of buying factory ammo is easier and more available IMO
Swiss are 7,5

Why worry about the higher operating pressure?

Historically I think the swede ran at lower than modern day pressures
Unless use modern action and skan data ?

I could be wrong

Paul.

US SAAMI specs (51,000psi) or Euro CIP (54,110) are current guidelines.

US reflects (misplaced) concerns about original Swedish Mauser rifles capability to deal with modern day pressures.......Even though the original proof rounds were registered at circa 66,000 piezo........but military ammunition ran around 48,000......hence the lower US figure?

Modern European rifles safe to assume would be the CIP figure.....so probably proofed around a minimum of 66,000.

Can’t see the 6.5 Creedmoor ever taking the 6.5 X 55's crown in Scandinavia.
