Insurance and legal cover

I had some pretty serious legal issues a long while back. I contacted BASC legal team and was dropped like a hot rock. Their only advice was to lodge my firearms and shotguns.
I turned to the NGO and was backed to the hilt. Never looked back.
Are you saying NGO helped you even as a new member with issues?

That’s bloody good going!

That’s exactly what happened.

As I say never looked back.👍
To be fair, you have looked back plenty over the last few years since you moved from BASC to NGO. I am sorry you feel you were badly advised by BASC and if you resolved things thanks to NGO it's a very well done from me to them in your case, albeit I have no details to go on, just trusting that what you are asserting to be true). With that in mind perhaps look back at your various unwarranted criticsms of BASC regarding nine organisations, including BASC and NGO, encouraging a voluntary move away from lead shot for live quarry shooting. Rather strange to single out BASC on this given you are a NGO member. Maybe be content with your new organisation if you have never looked back because you perhaps are contradicting yourself by looking back with your continual comments about BASC. Let's rather look at the positive work that BASC and NGO are doing for shooting. Just a thought.

Short answer

I’ve been just as critical with the NGO on their stance on lead shot and ammunition as I have BASC.

I’ve been with C3 since I left BASC never looked back
To be fair, you do spend a lot of time look back, asserting that shooting organisations, and particularly BASC, are ineffective. You have chosen an 'insurance only' provider so perhaps be more confident in your decision and let the past go, because if you have never looked back you perhaps are contradicting yourself by looking back with your frequent generic critical comments about shooting organisations and particularly BASC. Perhaps get behind positive examples of work done by one or more of the organisations. For example, in Norfolk, BASC has responded to the Norfolk local nature recovery strategy consultation highlighting the important work being done by deer managers, such as yourself (assuming that off your username). When the actions and maps for the strategy goes live would you be interested to get involved to showcase your deer management in the county?

Lets all fight together all orgs and shooter's all e mail our MP
Agreed. Several organisations and some of their members got in touch with their MPs ahead of the recent Westminster Hall debate on banning grouse shooting and that was enough to trounce the arguments of those seeking a ban. There could be several consultations ahead proposing changes to the law on firearms ownership and quarry species/seasons and whether folk are members of one, some or none of the organisations, we really should all get involved.

I was with NGO for many years but went back to BASC this year as their cover is better for the venison production side of things. No issues with NGO and I like the organisation but I didn't need 2 memberships so went with the one that gave me the better cover for my needs.
Thanks for sharing that. In all my years on this forum I don't recall anyone saying they left another organisation for BASC and then spending time on this forum rubbishing the other organisation to justify their decision. Yet, there have been and still are a fair few vocal folk that have done exactly that after leaving BASC for another organisation, and they do so for literally years on end. It's incredible really. I have joined and left many organisations over the decades for various reasons and I would not dream of spending my time wading into forums complaining about them years after the fact.

So if someone has a bad experience with a company or a product or business and are asked about their experiences with the aforementioned, then by your measure we should all just stay silent.
I read reviews on most things before purchasing, who doesn’t?
BASC does some amazing stuff but not all the time and doesn’t get everything right.
Simple enough?👍

Yes I agree. That does not explain some folk frequently wading into BASC related posts for years to have a moan about an organisation they were either never a member of or left eons ago for all sorts of reasons. That's not exactly folk giving feedback after being asked about their experiences. But, it is what it is, we are all different.

I've been with BASC since 1974 when it was WAGBI when ever I've needed advice it has been there be it for personal, club or syndicate. I firmly believe that no matter what form of Field sports you are involved in membership of an organisation that supports your sport or profession is essential. Just buying insurance gives nothing back to the sport and you could argue the protecion/progression of all forms of county sports is funded in part by those that support organisations such as BASC, NGO, SACS.
