Red rut.

Not sure about anyone else but we've started to observe stags grouping up hinds, not a single roar yet but the activity levels and terms of sightings of red deer have sky rocketed in the last week or so, not far off now! I think last year the first roar was the 25th onwards.

Heard a roar last week here in Assynt. There was a twelve pointer on hidden in the bracken just on the other side of our fence……….smelled him before our dog did…………..phew what a stink! As the OP stated, grouping of hinds by stags observed.

Curious to know how you’ll manage them now? Still a see them shoot them approach or wait till after the rut?

Was down last week, seeing a few hinds showing but no mature stags yet. Think it is usually the end of the month things start happening.

First roar we hear is usually about 14th-15th sept, but nothing usually really happens till last few days in Sept.
This year, when i was up in the last few days of August, there were a couple of stags roaring! Never heard them that early before, (maybe they were just practising). But im still not expecting much to happen till end if month.

Christ Almighty it’s a least a good month away and certainly not cold enough needs to drop at least 10° before things will start really kicking off

Are you finding that its a bit earlier than usual?
It's about that time, more weather/temp orientated I'd say though. We had a small dip in temp the other morning also, was down to 5-6°. Some of the big lads are in top condition, definitely a lot more movement this last week.

Just doing what I normally do this time of year prior to the red rut.
Thats limiting the distractions that appear on the playing field..
Wonder if our Tim's will be joining us on this years red rut?
Or if the famous rigid skate board trolley will make an appearance 😆

Horlicks to the rut, nothing fascinates me about dirty stinking rutting stag, roll November then the real work starts, I’ll have a red on my skateboard before tour end of season and some fallow!

Don’t knock it, bloody good hold kit

Same here no interest in shooting mature rutting stags. Or Rutting fallow Bucks and id go even further by saying Roe Bucks too..
And just to add those skate board trolley are pish... Especially if you need the blue telecom rope 🤣

Not pish if you have a big deer down where you can’t get a truck to it or you don’t have a quad handy, you’ll do a lot more sweating without it.
