Calibre

I leave the younger chaps (6.5 Creeds) to shoot the young Fallow bucks. They work, but some long runs (with lead). Roll on Nov 1st straight into does with .243w for me, but I will still let them play with their toys.

On the original post. Pick what you like and can get hold of as both do the job perfectly fine.
And anyone that still thinks copper and lead have different run on distances clearly hasn’t shot enough with either. But that’s a debate for another thread.

Didn’t you know copper is superior to lead that’s why we’ve been using it hundreds of years…. Oh hang on 😏
I’ve shot a HELL of a lot of stuff with copper, it works just fine, I’m the wrong person to talk to with regarding copper performance, I know exactly what it can and can’t do!

Oh I’ve got copper in the safe all loaded , all stacked up heavy and slow ready to go, deer will fall and damage will be minimal 👌

I use lead because I’m in rebellion 😂

As a user of lead for well over 60 years and thousands of of deer on the floor I beg to differ. However that's why discussions and some disagreement is what SD is all about. Clearly in your opinion, I haven't yet shot enough, must rectify that this evening when perhaps that may be addressed in some form.

I agree to a certain level with what you say, but having shot copper because I wanted to not because I’m being told to and having ordered Barnes’s bullets from Utah on a two week rotational Order because they were not available in the UK at that time I would say I have a fair knowledge of what copper can and cannot do!

Copper works just fine provided you use it at the weight design for calibre and you don’t drive the living daylights out of it then **** falls over, you drop weight drive them fast you end up with bullet damage and runners.

Also not taking into consideration ****ing idiots pulling the trigger, I’ve seen plenty in my time😂

Long runs with LEAD ????

That’s says it all 😂😂

Oh I’m not saying copper doesn’t work , I’m just saying if it was far superior to lead which a lot of the zealots on here would have you believe why did we ever bother with lead 😂😂

which calibre would you go for and why?
308 or
6.5 creedmore
Not to be boring but as always it depends on ones needs, and preferences. - for me, if i was to only have this one rifle and i was mainly hunting in Scandinavia, with relatively short shot distances, game up to moose and big boar being possible, and driven hunts also being a possbility, i'd go for a shortish barreled 308 of the two. It would be more suited to a shorter barreled and more manouverable forrest gun, still do well enough in the stands and it would be more suited for driven hunts and especially the larger more reselient stuff.

The loaded ammo or reloading component selection wouldnt be a factor for me really, and if needed the recoil can be handled with a muzzle break or surpressor these days.
But tbh, if i found a rifle i absolutely loved in the 6.5 credmoor and not in the 308, i might still go for that over the 308, as the rifle itself is such a big component of it as well. Especially if both cartridges in question will likely do what you need of it.
