Ever been to africa?African Big Game " Hunting" is garish and in very poor taste. Thankfully public opinion is strongly against it and I hope it literally dies out in our generation.
Born in Rhodesia. Worked in Namibia.Ever been to africa?
I have twice also asked Shakey Jake that as he keeps chipping in but won't say lol @shakey jakeEver been to africa?
I agree with banning stamp collecting and while we are at it football to as I don't like it99.9% of the population don't understand stamp collecting, should we ban it?

This and I would add, promote seasonal foods grown in this country over the imports from Africa and beyond, so we can become more self-sufficient in food we grow here. That includes fish and shellfish we catch but export because the UK public doesn’t buy it or even know about it. The obsession with providing maximum choice, even where it’s harmful and creates massive on-costs to the economy and society, is at the root of lots of the imbalance in our food, land use and legislation.A bit closer to home would be stop growing "wild bird cover" on land that previously grew wheat/barley/rape/beans.
Stop throwing away "past sell by date" food which has to be of a certain shape before it is boxed then shipped here.
Sort out the bi-catch trawling
Then start to mention "sustainable use"![]()
Spot on, Coming from 2 generations who worked the land with horses also growing up in a rural farming community then I have chatted to theThis and I would add, promote seasonal foods grown in this country over the imports from Africa and beyond, so we can become more self-sufficient in food we grow here. The key to my argument is in the the first word, "African".I can’t decide whether you don’t realise that deer are generally classed as big game in a lot of countries? Or that there’s not much difference between a kudu and a red deer.
Anyway, the American side of the industry will keep it going . There’s numerous taxidermy companies now also making almost identical replica skulls as well. Saves on weight for shipping and no import logistics headache .
So what is the difference? When it comes to conservation neither are at risc according to IUCN and both are considerer big game hunting wise? The key to my argument is in the the first word, "African".
As for there not being much difference between a Kudu and a Red Deer? I suggest you do a little research.
i wouldn't bother mate , norsk is a classic case of ' i am alright so bugger everyone else 'So what is the difference? When it comes to conservation neither are at risc according to IUCN and both are considerer big game hunting wise?
Each to their own Sir. Please accomodate this sentiment.
I regret not having the funds to do so when I was young enough to do so.
Fair enough Mr Lateral; but as I exhorted in my original post: each to their own.I would LOVE to have the funds, when I was younger, OR, even now ! BUT even if I did, shooting a "CANNED" anything ISN'T hunting, it's just SHOOTING.
I went to SA a number of years ago, and the outfitter offered lions, amongst other things. They were telling us about it, where they have a caged area they keep the lions, and move them into a fenced area as, and when a rich hunter requests to shoot one. They are released a day, or two before, & fed, so they stay in a small area.
HUNTING ????? I LOVE HUNTING, but THAT ain't it !!!! And I have ZERO respect for anyone who's ego thinks shooting a lion, or leopard this way is either hunting, or makes them brave !!!

Don't you think our sport, hobby, profession is fragmented enough without internal exertions demeaning the endeavours of our fellows?.
You can SHOOOOOOUUUUUTTTT!!!! all you want, does not make you right......Oh, so "EACH TO THEIR OWN", but we're not allowed to have an opinion, UNLESS it agrees with YOU ????
IF the shooting community want to continue enjoying our sport, we need to be able to discuss different opinions, and views, praise the good, & criticize, if we feel something is less than acceptable ?
If we ignore the public's perception, and opinion of our sport, just how long do you think the politicians will take to jump on the band wagon, and apply further bans ? We, the shooting community are coming under more, and more pressure, to have our guns banned, and I will argue against ANYTHING that "I" feel harms our cause.
And I'm afraid when people keep spouting on about "conservation", most of the time it's total BS. Most of these hunts are run by private companies, where they are just cashing in on wealthy Americans, Japanese, etc', and the only "conservation" is to their bank accounts. It's about BUSINESS, NOT hunting.
Where I went in SA, they were playing with genetics/breeding, to achieve rare coloured Springbok, and charging $200,000.00 so someone could say they'd shot an ultra rare animal ! It's ALL about the money.
I LOVE my sport, and want to make sure it remains, but IMPO, THIS type of hunting is detrimental. That's just "MY" opinion !
You can SHOOOOOOUUUUUTTTT!!!! all you want, does not make you right......
Whatever the ethics or the motivation involved, this mechanism does help with conservation and is probably the only thing keeping certain species from going extinct. Very paradoxal, but can you name any realistic alternatives?
