To clean or not to clean Moderators ? - That is the question.

I am mainly concerned with the Svemko Hunter 1.0 in .223. As the core is all Titanium maintenance may vary from others. Quite a few people recommend never cleaning / spraying the internals, so I am interested in what others say ?

l hose mine (non-titanium) out with WD-40 Penetrant.

A couple are user-strippable, but l don’t bother.

Apparently - Dont use WD40, it disipates and hardens into a sticky coating that accumulates carbon and reduses bore clearance and resists the pressure evacuation of loose material on firing.

In the days of the old T8’s wd40 was the must so thing!

I'm always mindful of aluminium threads, constantly unscrewing and screwing doesn't do them any good.

I have a very early reflex moderated . std thin none stainless ie an easy can to rust out . I use it regular on my .260 rem , the barrel burned out when Covid first appeared . A squirt of the Browning Leigia oil on a few patches , after the barrel gets its clean !
I know loads of folks who just don't clean then oil with a few soaked patches . Five mins with Meths impregnated patch and its good to go .
WD40 has changed and it promotes rusting, terrible stuff now , The Chinese i think own the now - I wont have the stuff in my workshop ,

My Ti mods are non-strippable. I dry out after use, borer-snake 3-4 times and then spray with Napier Silensave. No pop on first use post-clean and so far, no obvious issues.

Svemco recommend dismantling and washing in soapy water every six months
Was that info on their Website ? Very few manufacturers give a shot count based / time recommendation for cleaning e.g. every 50 rounds or annually, whichever comes sooner, or indeed a specific product. Powder deposits wont affect the Titanium core of course and it will take a vast amount of rounds to have a build up sufficient to affect anything balistically or otherwise.

Firing a shot produces various gases and water, so I think its more important to dry them out. Ive always put my jet Zs and f&d on the radiator or AGA, all still going after decades.

Still going after decades - says a lot. I agree, remove the moisture negates corrosion in many cases. 👌

I spray both my rimfire and full bore with Napier.
The full bore gets a full strip and clean 2 or 3 times a year. The rimfire once a month as the ammo can be very dirty and if you let it build up can be a pain to get the mod apart.
Also if I'm using fullbore subsonic I find i need to clean it more often than high velocity.
