Anyone else finding things incredibly slow tonight?

if additional measures to stop the site slowing like this occasionally (e.g. "are you human" checks)

Hi Charlie. I have noticed that many U.K. sites have adopted Cloudfare, Anubis or other off-the-shelf protections against site abuse.

One aspect of many of these methods is that they often reference a blacklist of VPN endpoints. Which is not good. I see VPN use as everyday prudence. Going online without it supplies your ISP with a cornucopia of data.

If you do have to implement an access challenge methodology, please avoid solutions prejudicial to VPNs.

You are absolutely right and this is exactly one of the sledgehammer/nut scenarios that we looked at a month or so ago. The solution we are narrowing down to will allow a more seamless experience for users, we hope.

Would it be worth while having logged out users permanently require some sort of Captcha before they can view threads, even an automatic questionnaire alongside it? 🤔 Were a deer site, something like "What native deer species are found In Britain?" just more hurdles for them too get stuck on. 👍

Really bad for me today. Several occasions site would not even load. It was v poor this am. Resolved early evening.
