Had a short notice cancellation tonight so at a loose end. Rang mereside and hes bringing over a free standing high seat. We will errect it on delivery. So who pays for that and who pays him for his time (and mine) ?. Only time i'll sit in it is with a client. So I not only lost earnings tonight but it will cost me.
MMMMMMMMMMMMM! ah yes the outing fee and the money from an occasional medal or good buck.
Surely 6P it is upto each client and guide to agree a price and stick to it.
You wouldn't believe how many films i edit as the buck is stood looking and we are agreeing a price.

Now Brains why would i want to charge more if i am happy with the price i get. You being a very new chap to stalking will not yet appreciate the finer points or the science involved. With regards special skills in controlling our urban friends that comes with the territory and many many year experience. I hope you get to do similar work when you have enough years behind you.Andi do you pay for your stalking and may i ask how much.

You know nothing about me or my experience. I have to say that I find the pious expert viewpoint that you so often present on the forum infuriating. Other people on here, especially the pro stalkers seem to offer balanced constructive viewpoints. I generally find that you take the 'this is why what i do is so much better' yes I do pay for stalking with the FC and don't have the opportunity to be too selective in culling. We have a target to hit, at the end of the day if we don't then it gets lamped or someone else, probably with more money, will step in. There is no reason why anybody should get made to feel that their management or modus operandi is inferior To anyone else's unless they are seriously doing something wrong. Each to their own depending on their circumstance. I also take issue with this commonly held belief that years of experience somehow equates to ability. That's b******t practice does not make perfect, perfect practice does.

I never talk price while we are on the actual stalk, that has been discussed and agreed beforehand. Neither do I tell the stalker how big the buck is before he takes the shot, I already know what his limit is, and if he wants to shoot a big medal or not. I just tell him wether to shoot it or to leave it. Certain clients can get very nervous if you let yourself sound excited and tell them it's a big medal before he's pulled the trigger!!

John i would answer but its the wrong thread mate and still waiting for the answers to the original question but to many not will to talk more interested in hiding the real costs. Andi i dont know your expearience or your back ground thats because in the deer stalking world you are as green as the grass .

Davie, where will all this go if i did publish a price, every post you want to know how much people are charging or paying.
You then contradict yourself saying you think you might have a go pro yourself then say you would'nt charge ,
you have my prices work it out yourself.
And if i start to tell you my income you need to share yours, How much for the driving lessons.
I haven't counted up lately but must be 150 outings by now and 62 deer this year.... you work the sums mate thats alot of L drivers buddy and its only just may. But all those outings are carried out beacuse the price is right. All I know is this thread will generate me more work, so thanks for that.
And while i have your attention please keep clicking on the adverts and videos on youtube thats earning me money as well now. 10,000 hits a week.
:tiphat:

John it might have been beter if you never answerserd mate because again from you and others totally empty posts. You are also takeing this as a personal dig and it not about you i dont think your prices are to expencive but they are hidden. The question was out of interest the same as asking how much is a rifle. Then asking how much is it with the mounts strap case etc.
You (pro stalks) might find by putting out a full and complete list of prices that more people might come out with you knowing there is no hidden price to beat them with at the end. I took a chap out last year that had been out the week before and had travelled 100,s of miles to look at deer because when he got there he could not afford the trophy price told to him gram inches cm,s.. Now that cannot be the correct way to treat customers and has a lot of people dodging client stalking.
Driving lesson john the price some one pays to come out with me is £25 per hour there is a discount price if they book a block. I dont charge extra if there luckiy enough to go on a dual carriageway and if they and if they take a wrong turn down a side road there is no punishment or miss fee  They need not know about my other cost that would only make me look like a miser. I do get the odd thank you at a pass but it never never mentioned.

well that deserves an answer now Davie, I've only been playing with you.
Its not taken personally, but why is there a need for it to be published for all to see?.
What you need to remember is many have to pay a lease to a landowner and he many keep an eye on what is taken off the ground. If they think to much is getting made they may up the rent, (when it was already fair) so theres your answer why other guides are not publishing their prices.
the above rent hike would hit profits and may make a company un-viable. Hope you understand this.
If you were a pro you would know this and never have asked the question.
People still have to email me for a price list and confim by booking on the phone
Mine and guides prices are not hidden you simply have to ask.
From that photo it looks like a normal mature 6 pointer. So it would cost £120.( maybe it should be more).
The miss fee I only ever charged 3 times was dropped last year. But believe me had I charged it everytime over the last 4 years it would have been worth many K's.
We are like you running a business and we have to make it pay or there would be more driving instructors and more deer.

You will never be a rich man working as a guide, that's for sure. I took a Celtic FC player out stalking this morning, he turned up in a big Porsche worth more than my house, and all for kicking a ball about!!

Last year my diesel bill alone was 12k, and it's going up almost weekly!!! :suss:

+1
And my clothing/boot bill seems to never end.
you bought a good coat and boots lately? The weather we just had really tested everything including the bank balance.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people on here think that we professionals should disclose confidential information about our businesses - and then get a little lairy when we don't!

A genuine enquirer will get to know this information by either by PM to the guide, or by telephone call.

The 'spies' will always find out eventually, but don't expect professional operators to divulge stuff that - quite frankly - is none of your business! ......... Unless you are genuinely interested in stalking with them, in which case they are normally happy to do this.

I don't generally tell anyone prices of any services or products we provide unless the enquirer sends us an email, instead of hiding behind the anonymity of the keyboard.

MAN UP nosey boys!

I was going to make a comment on this (what you running an artic unit etc) untill I worked out what I'm using a year just running a td5 disco for leisure absolutely shocking

Jelendeer you are a fool sir not only have you had your business slated because you gave some pour foreigner a walk round an empty plot. You then call in formation regarding shooting deer with you as private and confidential. Are you sure you should be advertising at all you might be contravening the official secrets act. PS i don't care what your cost are for a pair of trainers we all need to pay it. The ask ed question was to see costs not judge them what a bunch of cynical buggers you are.
I did check my original question and i never asked to see your accounts i am sure of that.!!
John thanks for the clarity on the buck you are correct just an average young to middle age buck and at £120 i don't think you are to dear and that is down to the people you take out.

Like has been asked, and john answered the question. why dont guides show there prices on here ? i know when you walk round a gamefair there are leaflets on loads of stands showing the prices for all deer species, i know it cant be set in stone to a certain extent but surely you guys would get a lot more clients ringing you up by knowing they can afford to take a beast. i bet there are lots who probably could afford to go out but dont bother ringing because they think they are waisting there/your time.

thats like that good looking lonely blond at the bar, every one ignores her cos shes out of our league, but all she wants is someone to talk to her.
like i said earlier pros won't publish costs why should they and we are all making a living anyway. I couldn't be much busier.

Theres loads which do if you google search.
