Midland game fair Porr services for the trade

As usual I made the annual trip to the MGF, how it has changed from the early days when the rough shooting club of which I was a member ran the gun dog scury.

Anyway first point of call was Norman Clarkes for some .223 bullets. No problem, issue was trying to pay with them with a card. Despite having about half a dozeen card machnies the signal was so poor that it took ages for a payment to go through if you were lucky. It was so frustrating for customers and alike. Similar thing happened to me on several othe stands. It also appeared that in general mobile signal was terrible making it all but impossible to meet up with friends etc.

Looking at what it costs the traders and the cost of tickets you would have thought they would be arrangements in place to provide a mobile base station that appears to be pretty standard at other shows/CLA.

Looks like the MGF will go the same way as others another cash cow to be stripped of its assets.

I heard many unsolicted complaints about the event organisers and their complete indifference to the trade and paying public.

Also to the chance to look at the top end scopes quite impresive, but £2k for a Swarvi is pushing it. Couldn't help to notice that on this stand the rep I spoke to was wearing a rather nice Rolex, obviously they pay well, I wonder how!!

We got in there before 9am to find all the hand gel dispensers empty outside the toilets, and like yourself i couldnt pay with my card. talking to a mate last night who went for the first time he said he wasnt impressed and he wouldnt rush back. As you say the MGF need to get there act together before its too late.
Also i think the security is a joke, a trader told us £20,000 of guns were nicked friday night, another 2 of another stand and we heard of cars broken into on the car park.

Had same trouble with Norman Clark they had to phone thier shop to take payment, everyone had trouble it was a lottery if pyment went through or not.A trader at the bottom of gunmakers row had arange finder nicked problems getting worse going to spoile a once very good show.Dave

We watched a group of caravan club members using a distraction technique where the girls keep the sales assistant busy with "have you got this in a size 12? and what about the pink one's... are these the same price?" while the lads help themselves to a nice barbour Jacket

Two things Si - what do you mean by "caravan club members" and secondly you watched this theft but did you actually try and stop it?

How can a trader allow guns to be stolen? Surely somebody would have to be monitoring them at all times?
Anybody know anymore details about this, or in fact what was stolen?

EVERY show I trade at, there are guns stolen

I lost a few sets of rifle dies at the Phoenix this year, one of the dealers lost a very expensive antique pistol

The MGF is especially bad - possibly due to the nature of some of the "groups" that attend purely to fell their car boots with as much stuff as they can literally get away with...

leej,

Repetition of hearsay becomes "fact". In this case I'm wrong, you actually questioned it. I offer you my apology.

Yes i agree security was crap , not once was i asked for my pass onto the campsite , i had a mate who came on the sat who should have had a parking permit , he waved a blank piece of paper at the hung over security chap and drove straight on .
Spoke to a guy on the sporting gun stand who informed me Gilson sports had guns stolen on the fri night and the sporting gun stand was also targeted .

As i understand a Mr Ian Hartford is a big shout down there aka Team Wild they had the biggest set up by far surely this must rub up all the traders that paid over the odds for a 4mx4m pitch ? .
Card payments was a total lottery , at the Country Covers stand they took my mobile number so they could ring me when the transaction was completed , due to the crap phone signal i never recived a call .

So Mr Hartford if you can be bothered to read any of these posts , get your act together before its to late .

I didn't need to... the staff where onto them. The lady that was helping my daughter trying on a pair of wellies kept apologising, saying "sorry I'm just keeping my eye on this lot" The manager had already called security and when they showed up the group left sharpish without buying anything. They didn't manage to get away with anything on this occasion, one of the lads had tried on a jacket then put his own jacket over the top but he got rumbled.

Sorry if I offended caravan owners, but we're not allowed to say "pikey scum" apparently it's racist

Was there on Saturday. Quite a large police presence, saw two "types" getting a friendly word from the Staffordshire Police. I had two complimentary trade tickets. Would have felt robbed if I'd paid! My son, who is a good chef, was distinctly UNDERWHELMED by the so called "food village". In fact a better selection of that sort of thing at the farm shop four miles down the road!

Was last at the MGF about fifteen years ago. In fact I think twenty years ago. This year's effort didn't compare at all. And as for a "fishing village" Ha, ha, ha! Except of course that folk paid good money to get in. VERY POOR!

+++++1 Have been for the last 7 or 8 years, has always had a certain feel, Pikey scum etc but on top this year, expected que driving in but wow que to pay to get in 200 metres long, suprise suprise 2 cash stalls and 2 card stalls for everyone to get in. Crap oganisation and mean, really cheap scumy show. Every toilet bank like a little group of plastic building site individual stinking boxes cheap cheap cheap. WILL NOT BE GOING AGAIN
