Idiotic moves wether in a car, or sat astride a bike, can have several causes......... some initiated by car drivers,.... like travelling along a motorway in the outside lane of a two laner at fifty, no one else in sight, so you proceed to pass in the left lane , car driver takes umbrage at this & decides his car is now a weapon.:suss:

Look, we all know that there are idiots in all walks of life. I ride bikes and sometimes swear at stupid ****s on bikes. I have also lost friends on the biking scene. It happens but you deal with it. I still ride bikes and always will. I also swear at stupid ****s with 4x4s, shotguns, rifles, sometimes you wonder how how these people got through the interview process, cars, diving and many of the other facets of life that I pass through. The common factor here is that in all walks of life there are members of the Darwin awards.
I can understand people's loss. 5 years ago I lost someone dear to me and it hit me really hard! I lost my best mate and still get upset even now. But it happened and it will continue to happen. It has not put me off doing the hobby that cost him his life
So please don't take this as a personal attack on people.
here is one way to ensure every car and bike slows down. Stick a 6 inch nail in the steering wheel/fairing. And remove all safety equipment like seatbelts. You see that and you will think twice about speeding. The theory is that as cars, for example, get safer and safer, people are happy to drive faster because they believe they will be cocooned by the airbags, safety bags side impact etc. all bikes should ride naked. Because everybody can imagine what would happen if they came off. Makes me shudder.
but if you did this there will still be some Darwinian who will still decide he/she is immortal.
also be careful quoting supposed fact re accidents. I was heavily involved in bike politics in the nineties and for anyone else who was interested remember the lies from the EC re accident stats and the whole leg protector issue?Enough said.
Hopefully I haven't raised too many hackles as it is not my intention to offend anybody.

Now to amend the OPs question!
Should we run a SD bike ride out?

Aye, 22 of them in the fleet.

1974 900SS Bevel, RH gearchange, never registered and raced by my brother in production and Battle of the Twins.

851 Tricolore Strada.

851Tricolore Kit “S”, came from Ducati New York, unregistered with the engine never having turned a wheel until in my hands. Blast round the local roads on slicks was very entertaining.

888 Luchinelli Replica, never raced, used once for the 1999 Goodwood Festival of speed, actually road registered. Came with the complete factory spares kit.

888 SP4S, bought from John Hackett at Ducati Coventry last year.

888 SP5

916 SPS, my first modern bike after the 900SS Bevel, a fair difference.

998R, unregistered, bought in 2002, the last one available in the UK.

Desmosedici D16RR, ridden all of 30 yards, Ducati Glasgow’s workshops into the van and several laps of the 400metre track at the 2011 Grampian Transport Museum Motorcycle Convention, 16 miles total..

Ducati SuperMono, No. 001 – 2010, built by Alistair Wager using new SuperMono spares.

Ducati 1098R Bayliss Rep., 2009.

Triumph T150, Triumph T160, T160 based Legend, built by Les Williams.

Rob North Trident with a 970cc engine from Jack Shemans, ex. Triumph race engineer with Les Williams. Raced by myself in open class and classics.

MV Agusta 750 F4 d’ Oro, Mondial Piega, Aprillia RSV SP, Bimota V Due (fuel injection), Thruxton 500 class winning ex works Velocette Venom Clubman as raced by Cecil Sandford, Vic Willoughby and Rex Avery.

Suzuki 250 X7, raced by me in the Avon production series.

Yamaha TY 175 trials, just the tool for the Cairngorms.

A nice collection indeed - you obviously like Ducatis!

I have a 851 SP3 (also ex-John Hackett) and I just bought a BMW S1000RR. This was a toss-up with an 1198S, and sometimes I wonder if I made the right choice. The SP3 is much more involving to ride than the S1000, which is a bit sterile by comparison. A 1098R would be very nice - I've never ridden one, but from the write-ups it's a bit of a beast!

As others have remarked, it's surprising how many people who shoot also ride bikes - perhaps they're both rather solitary activities?
