A friend is just back from Hungary culling roe does. Was using a 30-06 with 150 grain gamekings. The keeper over there advised him the only excellent calibre " in his idea " for culling those does. = 243 win
The meat is for the market, so clean shots are favoured. They shoot, with good support, at rather long range over there. 200-250 metres is what I consider long range for roe. 243 with 85 grain Nosler Partition could be ideal.
Your talking out of your a-hole. The Germans can consider Roe to be whatever they like, they are Deer.
Roe does not = Deer. A Roe is a type of Deer but one of the smaller species and at least in Germany, they consider "small game".

50 to 70 grain 223 bullets have killed thousands of 50-100 kg persons in war. A 80-100 grain bullet in 243 should at least be able to do the same. Game in the 80-100 kg class should not be a problem in comparison to the 223 bullets.
Nnce shot stabbed or burnt they will die on you quicker than you can imagine. Generally, if your goat dies you fail...
On a happier note, this malodorous goat of a thread of yours is simply trotting on and on - so you haven't failed yet!

Amazing as it might sound, most animals seem to have a greater will to live than humans. The one exception I know of is goats, this is one of the reasons they are used in Special Forces medical training. Nnce shot stabbed or burnt they will die on you quicker than you can imagine. Generally, if your goat dies you fail....

I wouldn't discuss that and I agree that many of those " war victims" are only wounded. On the other hand you see many boar ( not the very heavy ones ) culled in New Zealand and Australia with a 223 and Barnes TSX bullets. Many war victims are killed with one bullet out of a 223.
I fully agree that the 243 is not the msot favoured round for heavy game. Certainly not my choice neither. But for lighter game like roe, fallow, red hinds, goats, chamois, ..... a 243 with a good bullet is very lethal.
Bullet choice is probably very important in this calibre. A 80 grain Barnes TTSX launched at 243 velocities in a vital spot of a deer will be deadly. The same for a good Nosler Partition.
Game in the 50-100 kg class must be easely killed with a good bullet out of a 243.
