Mike, please feel free to correct me if I am wrong but did Jellen Deer Services not post a video on Youtube a few years ago showing deer being head shot, and if my memory serves me well it was a "pretty graphic video"! (I've just had a look through Youtube but can't find it now, maybe you removed it) If I am right then surely your original post on this thread is somewhat hypocritical!
Personally I do not have a problem with head shooting deer while out on "Park/Farm Culls" but I would not want to post any photos of head shot deer on any Internet Forum, FaceBook or Social Media, I don't think it is necessary and doesn't make a very "pretty" or pleasing photo to look at!
One of the problems we face is that on some Shooting Related Forums whenever there is a post about some sort of a memorable shoot/shot you get no end of posts simply saying "Got any photos of that?" (I have to admit that The Stalking Directory is not so bad in that respect as many others)
I recently had a video of some rabbit shooting removed by Youtube as it was said to be too graphic and not in good taste!

There are a few head shots on this one but not graphic close ups though. Not sure why they have to be included in the video perhaps one would be ok, I'm sure Mike will explain. In his defence I think he is talking about the graphic closeups people post.

think you might have misinterpreted the OP? It was referring to photos of headshot deer or deer that were otherwise visibly mutilated in the photo.....

The reference to mutilated deer and disrespect came later.

My above post with photos was directed at Nigel, a wee bit tongue in cheek.

Point is, fishermen constantly post photos of fish they catch. Some being returned. What's worse? Playing a fish for 20mins and putting it back, or knocking it in the head to eat? Either will cause controversy in the 'anti' brigade...

The 'hero' shot, as it's been referred to doesn't sit well with me, but that depends on how it's been taken. I can't see how anyone can be offended by the above two photos of bucks from last week, but they will be. And frankly,I don't give a toss. I can walk past my butchers and see all manner of dead animals hanging up ready for sale. Any deer I shoot are also consumed, and harvested ethically.

A photo of an animal just lying dead having been splatted, I don't get either. But that goes for any animal, not just deer, which some seem to be oh so protective of beyond my reasoning, a sentiment I don't get as they are no different in my eyes to any other animal I kill...

Yes, I know this is a deer stalking forum. But it has the facility for other related topics to be discussed also, so IMO any form of wildlife management should attract the same passions or indeed concerns.

The shooting was done in the context of management, after showing other forms of control, with no close ups or glorying in the death of a beast .... so in this context it was professional .... did you actually bother to view the video clip?

There are two differences here:

1. Managing a large herd cull plan is very different to recreational stalking - this is 1.0.1 stuff

2. Professional cull managers won't lose their toys when the idiot posters f@@k it up for the rest of us - we will

Yes I read your other post. Just for the record I don't regard firearms as toys or playthings; equipment, tools or in some rare instances of technical or aesthetic superiority even 'works of art' but never 'toys'.

As I stated, photos or videos of slaughterhouse work is fantastic ammunition for the anti's.
Reading some of the other posts I am just pleased there are some other humans beings on here.

Personally I think standards in all things have dropped over a relatively short time. Ok so you want to take photo's of animals you have shot, I have one or two but have only ever posted one in a sporting mag and no way would I even put them on here as I have seen enough dead deer in my life and need no reminders.
Red Dot you are spot on regarding dress, ever since getting out of necessary "Cammo" some 30 to 40 years ago I have worn tweeds for all sporting activities, at least they are warm even when wet, and as an ex keeper I believe in a reasonable standard of dress whatever you do. Sorry but the "cammo warriors" and folk who post photos of dead deer on more public sites are another symbol of what I consider to be the demise of correct standards within fieldsports.
Just my own opinion and there are still opportunities out there to wear real cammo and contribute to the well being of Britain if it floats your boat so well.

Good lord, I make no attack. I just contributed an observational remark on an open forum discussion topic. Luckily my first 'remark' let you explain your choice of words but you still chose them. For what it's worth I doubt if photos in bad taste do the responsible shooter any good but I also firmly believe that many people, particularly the ignorant, think what they want to think and don't care a jot about actualities. You can show as much 'responsible' shooting as you like, antis will still be anti. What you need to do is lobby the authorities with facts, as BASC do for instance. BTW I read yesterday that BASC have halted the airgun banning legislation in Scotland because the 'antis' failed to produce the facts. That, for me, is the right way to keep shooting protected.

I think after all of this it appears that many of us clearly lack an understanding of the public perception. Forget deer stalkers for the moment as we see each other in a different way to how the general public would but even so, most of us don't want to see splattered game. Sure in some cases it can raise a chuckle at first glance but to many and especially the general non-hunting community this kind of material would be very offensive, vulgar and very damaging to any chance of acceptance we might have in the future playing a legitimate part in wildlife management.
