Gloucestershire Police - Requiring Training before Shotgun Certificate Grant

The other issue with this is how long before other forces firearms depts think what a good idea and follow suit, probably from reading it on here

For the life of me, I cannot understand why anyone would be granted access to any firearm without some form of training.
Maybe the applicant just wants to exercise their s28 rights over the shotgun? Maybe a spouse who's husband on his passing hopes that she will keep a family heirloom for a following generation, such as my eleven year old, who are, as yet, not of an age to actually have their own SGC or to use the thing? Or as with my thirty-one year old not presently resident in the UK so not possessing an SGC?

The problem is that Glos FA are continually adding illegal restraints on persons applying for SGC and FACs.
My exposure comes from assisting a member on here who is in Glos.
I will let him post if he thinks it is appropriate.
I do hope BASC can enlighten Glos perhaps the staff should be the first attendees on BASC FEO training course!

Mine is a similar experience. The situation I know about is simply bizzarre.

Oh, and BTW, you can't write to complain to the Deputy CC of GlosPol either......he suddenly retired in June......it transpires he's under investigation too........bring back Tim Brain.......

BBC News - Deputy chief constable retired amid misconduct claim

BASC is contacting the force about this - that should not be happening. If anyone else has evidence of such training requests/demands please let me know either on this thread, by PM, or by email.
Just to update that BASC has contacted the force querying this and to reiterate that if anyone else has evidence of such training requests/demands please let me know either on this thread, by PM, or by email to conor.ogorman@basc.org.uk

You will have a strong investigative background and good communications skills that you will use to minimise risk to the public by conducting robust enquiries to support the effective control of licensed firearms, ammunition and explosives; ensuring public safety and full compliance with legislation.

Taken from the Job advert for a FEO position clearly the head of the dept didn't get that memo.

We have had feedback from the force that applicants would not be told they had to go on an Ian Coley shooting school course but they would be asked about what safety handling/training they have had as the force would expect at least some knowledge. I think that is a reasonable explanation in the context of the details provided in the OP about the person that told them about their meeting with a FEO.
