Im not overly fond of metacam as i lost a dog using this stuff -but my mrs advised collagen based products can assist greatly in sore old bones so anyone able to validate??
I've seen this about hydrolysed, but even if they cross from the gut, the turnover of cells in an arthritic joint is so slow, it's not likely they will make a difference. There are a few reports from recent studies that hydrolised forms of collagen can enter the bloodstream more effectively and could be effective.
Collagen Supplements May Offer Real Benefits, Large Review Suggests Summary article
Collagen has very little if any impact on a damaged joint. Keep the dog light and fit and use pain relief when neededAny good for hip joint issues? My bitch starting down that road unfortunately, havent had vet opinion yet but prefer to be prepared
It's only place is in curries.Turmeric?
So if i curry a labrador ill stop its joint pain? It's only place is in curries.
Like a lot of remedies, any of its alleged effects are due to tow effects - firstly the normal up and down of arthritic pain, which many of us will relate to , second the care-giver placebo. This is where the person giving the treatment wants it to work and sees an effect. It applies to vets as well as owners!
Youmove has high levels of omega 3 fatty acids which acts as an alternative substrate for the proinflammatory arachidonic acid pathway that directs the body to producing less severely inflammatory cytokines. The important thing is that it works so keep giving it but it’s not likely to be due to the supplement of glucosamine and chondroitin which as Buchan says is not likely to be absorbed from the gut intact. Another substance with some science behind it is Boswellia which has been used for millennia in the east.I use youmove on our 11 year old lab/bmh. They definitely make a big difference. If they are forgotten for a few days she is very stiff, but with them she is still a puppy and happy to go all day.
