“Friend” permission stealing

Because someone shares the same pastimes as you, it's easy to believe that they share the same morals and have decent behaviour. Not always so sadly. I am one that always likes to assume the best in people I know, but sadly experience and age has taught me not everyone deserves your trust.

Mehhh i take plenty of people out in private and public property. Every one of those places was hunted before me and will be hunted after me. Ive been to several places where the owners have turfed out the previous hunters because for various reasons. If other people get permission to hunt there with or without me behind my back doesn't bother me. I got too many places to hunt. The owners are nice enough just to let me know if somebody is there when im planning the day. As for public land hunting you can't stop anybody hunting and seeking out another patch is the spice of life.

mchughcb - A good set of values. However in this small, relatively crowded sceptred isle of ours, there's no public land you can shoot on like you are able to and so all permissions are for privately owned land and permissions can be jealously guarded from ne'er do wells who would see you turfed off. This doesn't just apply to deer stalking but even rabbits, pigeons and suchlike.

Theres finite amounts of shooting land in the UK so if you knock a door your bound to be stepping on someone's toes

But the only way you can lose land is to have someone put in a significantly higher offer than you on paid land. Paid land being just an income for the owner. Unpaid land, if your doing a good job, then why would you lose it?

So many times I knocked doors and was told, "Oh sorry we already have a deer stalker, but haven't seen him for ages?" and STILL I didn't get a look in on the permission???

So many people mad keen to get stalking permissions without the time or ability to properly manage the land, or the inclination to let others shoot and help them out.

I am less concerned about people knocking doors at my permissions than I am about our paid ones putting the price up

We have a clause on our syndicate membership that they cant approach the owner for permission whilst a member or within 12 months of leaving the group. If they do we go for breach of contract and trust me, I would I can afford it, and id be that angry

As it is I feel secure in our permissions of over two years old. I worked very hard to earn that sense of security.

I once had this done to me, by Aquaintences not friends they came game shooting and saw all the lovely big roe bucks and offered a large wedge to the land owner, I wouldn’t and couldn’t match it.

So I proceeded to shoot every big roe buck in velvet on all the small feilds that surrounded the permission. (They watched me shoot the 3 biggest from their high seats!)

Not that I’m spiteful it’s just there is more than one way to skin a cat.

After all the bucks were dead the blokes were not where to be seen and I got the permission back the following year.

I'll come at this from the other side. I was given a permission by a stalker for some small land to shoot the rabbits, he had all the surrounding land. But wasn't interested in this bit. The person who had the land asked me if I wanted to take over all the farm and they would have a word for me with the owner.
Funnily enough, I wasn't comfortable about that and said no thanks, and told the stalker about the conversation. I don't think he was worried to be honest but I didn't want it getting back to him from someone else.
But there you go, we all have stories to tell.

I have taken plenty of people out with me on my local permissions (none with deer on them) and have never had anyone go behind my back.

its sad to hear on this thread that it goes on so much.

This person is not your friend. Sort out your shooting permission with the farmer get him onside and ask him to give you written permission if he has not already done so. Then challenge your former friend over this, his response is irrelevant if you already know he is trying to take your permission and let him know that it's your permission and if he goes on the land without permission, which he doesn't have, then he's committing armed trespass, then leave it at that.

If hes gone behind your back why do you call him a friend
Friends are poeple you can rely on and trust .
Hes not worth a toss
The only problem with him getting on your permission is if he does something wrong it could potentially back fire on you as well and could possibly lead to both of you losing valuable land to shoot over
Hope it works out ok for ypu buddy
