.22 Hornet

Pushed in deep to get over the 40 grain being over sized to put in the mag ? If you want to use them try pulling or grinding the polymer tip off it makes no matter at hornet ranges anyhow
Or use a 40 or 45 grain Seirra Hornet bullet , speer 40 grain softpoint etc , they work pretty good to say the least

Just fill the case with Lil gun, squash a 45 GR Sierra sp in to correct length. Head shoot rabbits and hares at 100 yds all day. If it doesn't, throw the rifle away and get a good Hornet.

Pretty much , this older gun might actually need the slighter smaller Hornet size , kranks keep them ! A good hornet will do a lot further than 100 yards head shots but this is an old gun . 140 yards is my set zero distance on my own modern .22 hornet it will go moa or better very consistently at 200 - Its a modern CZ though that i pillar bedded and its been breathed on a bit here and there and a well mounted quality modern scope in good mounts .
Got to respect the older stuff an E-type from the 60s would not be able to match the handling , breaking, comfort etc of a recent one .

So you have a CZ as do I. I was merely trying to point out that with just a simple load it is easy to achieve reasonable shooting. So ok with a consistent load of powder and the correct bullet, my zero setting is 150 yds with an S&B scope well mounted, and I can achieve similar accuracy to you. I will however bet that you've never shot Fallow at that distance with yours, which I did regularly before 1960. 🤗

correct as i wasn't yet born

It’s always a worry when you buy an old rifle with no known history. I tried it out today with some Hornady and RWS ammo. The below pictures are the results at 100m. I’m pretty happy with that. Only 2 shot groups as I find with old hunting rifles the 3rd shot always drifts a bit.

1 x 3 shots with Hornet and 35 grain NTX.
1x 3 shots with 22Fireball and 40 grain Sierra BT.
Hornet (R#3) is the bigger group. Both at 200 yds with bipod.
Ken.
PS Wraith 4K mini on FB and Hawke 3-9 on Hornet.
