22lr shotshell

I’ve been trying a few reduced powder loads with of 9gms of 9 shot originally made up for a .410 pistol in a Yildiz O/U , they work pretty good out to 10yds, the powder/shot charge can be altered to suit your needs.

Cheers guys anyone know where to get some of these 22lr bullets that have been mentioned ?
CB Long or Zimmer Patrone type cartridges, segmented hp or the Aguilar 22lr super colibri ?
The cb longs are low powered, around FAC air rifle territory, the segmented HP are full power subsonic so around 100 ft-lb, don’t use them around buildings!!

As has been said an air rifle is good medicine for rats, .410 is more fun. 9 mm garden gun is okay, sub 10 yards but often over 5 the rats just shake it off.

I did ask my feo exactly that, even for a long barrel pistol as the rats i shoot are very close usually, she wouldn't even consider it!
I use my underlever in .357 (conditioned for vermin) loaded with 158 gr of number 6. Again quite effective close in, more power than the garden gun but .410 does the job much better.

Cci quiet segmented are 45 ft lbs at muzzle. But Still wouldn't want 40 grain of lead at that power without a decent backstop, especially when designed to split into 3.

Yes, but the post I quoted mentioned segmented HP which are full power subsonic

Lots of thoughts thanks guys.
I'll be trying the shotshells I think and leave the CCI segmentation ammunition as I didn't realise that was full power.
I have a old single shot 410 bolt action that I'm gonna try also with 2" cartridges 👍

I don't understand all this backstop worry when using 22 on rats. I just use a sub sonic 22 on them. Never have an issue.
You wouldn't blast an air gun or whatever into livestock so why does a 22 have to be any different?

My ratting is done in a concrete yard around cattle sheds or in a concrete grain store, less power is definitely preferable in both places.

Not saying that’s the same for everyone but that’s why I don’t use a .22.

My farms are full of scrap, junk, lumber, piles of muck and bedding material.
Sometimes when I feel lazy I go around with the 12g and red light and just blast the little.....darlings.

I can see the price and avalbilty of shot shells being so horendous that it will be easier and cheaper to get an old single barreled .410 and 2" cartridges
I paid £7:00 per 100 for federal .22 shot shells so not expensive really. That was two or three years ago though so they may have gone up?
