.243 or 6.5...

The Op will be handloading, probably Sierra 120 pro hunters. 120 NBTs handloaded through my 23.5” Shoot well at 2860 fps, 2500 ft-lb is pretty hot from the swede, especially from a 22”

Yeah I’ve a 26” barrel. 100gn TTSX circa 3380fps if memory serves a shade under 2500ft lbs. Still very mild to shoot.

As a handload prospect it is superior to the creed in a modern rifle, and close to the perfect all rounder

Not sure that it is superior just because there’s a few more grains capacity, I load for both and the creedmoor (both I’ve loaded ) can be pushed harder than my 6.5x55. Either way they are both better prospects for an all rounder than .243. The op has, as mentioned above, bought a 6.5x55 and I will be helping him work up a load or 2.....

I’m sure it’ll be perfect in that case. I was debating 6.5x284 at one point but I’m not sure how much more I would want than careful reloading can produce from a swede. Still feels like shooting an air gun too.

It’s an awesome calibre, would have had 2 but couldn’t wait for a 24” heavy barrelled rifle so got a creedmoor off the shelf, don’t regret it!
