.25-06 for stalking

Looking to buy a .25-06 for using for a sole stalking rifle and was wondering if many people are using this calibre and what bullets are popular?

Have only used a .22-250 previous but looking to get a bigger rifle to cover all areas.
Cheers

Wouldn't be without my Tikka M65. It's my favourite rifle and calibre.

I generally reload 117gr Hornadys but I never miss a chance to ask the smaller dealers if they have any old ammo collecting dust. Some great deals occasionally turn up due to the lemmings ignoring tried and tested (old) calibres in favour of the media's next hyper calibre. Did someone mention 7wsm, Saum, creedmore, etc?

117grn sako gameheads are pretty reliable for bigger stuff. For Fox etc 85grn federal premium (nosler BT) are also good.....and although I wouldn’t recommend them as a first choice the 85grn BT doesn’t blow up nearly as much as you’d expect, I’d have no issues using them on roe....generally they’ll go right through so if you using them for varmints at night expect an exit.....

Forgot to say.....unfortunately not as many sold as 243,308,3006 etc so expect to pay around £40 a box for either of the above.

Have you checked availability of factory ammo in your area ?

It’s better these days but still not a mainstream Calibre & homeloading best way to get use of it...

Factory I can only say federal premium classic
And privi partisan
Federal was excellent but expensive min. £42 a box
Privi cheaper & minute of deer but I prefer better accuracy .
.

Homeloading
117grn Sierra gamekings are excellent
87grn Speer hotcore
85grn nosler BT hunting

24” barrel minimum kinda recommended to get best out of it .

I’ve had .25-06 for 15 yrs plus ...and love it
Lovely to shoot

20 years in now with this cartridge, K95 since 2003, brilliant!
110gn Nosler Accubond for stags & 100gn Sierra Prohunters for hinds & anything else.
Works a treat.
