3 Calibres

Just thinking of the concept gives me the vapours , but if I had too pick , it would be a 22LR , a 270 win and either a 35 Whelen , 358 win . That being said , there's many combinations that would accomplish the same thing , and I intend to try all of them lol .

Just to be different, 17 Remington for rabbit 6.5x47 for fox and 7mm Rem Mag for deer. I know the 6.5 is on the big side for fox but it is very effective and the rifle would serve dual purpose on deer as well.

I would buy whatever you want and either start reloading or have someone make custom loads for you.

In which case: .20BR; .30x47; and 7-300 Win Mag.

Ideally a .22LR as well, but if limited to 3 then an air rifle...

Choosing only what is readily available off the shelf in any local gunshop, then I’d probably get a .22LR, a .243 and a .308 too.

My rule is simple: a separation of give or take 50gr in bullet weight for centrefires. So 50gr, 100gr and 150gr, and that equates to .223, 243 and .308. I’ve had those three cartridges for 30 years give or take and there’s nothing in the world of medium game I’ve not been able to take on.

For those periods of time that I’ve chased somewhat bigger animals than large deer, I’ve simply stepped it up another 50 or 100gr, to 200gr and 250gr, and taken up medium bore rifles of which the .35 Whelan in Aus was the most memorable.

22lr self explanatory
20 Tac stupidly accurate out to 600 yards otherwise I’d have a 222.
6.5x55 as a Deer rifle pleasant to shoot accurate what more do you need.
I could choose differently but I have those already and I have taken years and various other calibre’s to get to the ones I have.
I would be dropping 270 and 222 from the list but I would happily use those instead of the first choice if reloading wasn’t an option.

.22 hornet, .25-06 and .300WM - what I have now!

You can load the .25-06 with 75-80gn BTs for fox and a heavier 117gn for deer. The winny you can load with a mild load of 180gn so it shoots like a .308 or stoke it up to full power for big reds on the hill.

Hornet covers you for rabbits and foxes out to 200y easy.

for me its
22lr - self explanatory
243 - 87gn vmax for foxes (or 85gn BTHP for small deer if you really want)
30-06 - 165gn or 180gn Sierra Gameking (around 2700fps) for everything else in this country deer or boar, with options for differing bullet weights/designs for other species around the globe if needed
