6.5 x55 pro's and con's

Hmmmm sorry Muir it seems that we are at crosed purposes

I will point out on benefit of the undersize .303 britisah brass ..................... I use new R.P brass to make cases for the 6.5x53R which needs to be 0.005" smaller in the web area than the .303 should be the rim is also slightly smaller in diameter ;) so it actually helps in this one isolated case.

I did have a fair bit of the Winchester 180 Gr SP "white Box" in .303 and yes it shot quite well.

No problem. That little bit of difference has always been the "so close, yet so far" fly in my 6.5x55 reforming ointment. Of course, now the brass is common in the US. It wasn't so when I started shooting it!

As an FYI, I have a #4 MkII target rifle that I make "match" brass for out of 30-40 Krag. It is wide enough to take up the slop in an oversized chamber and the rim is a snug fit on the boltface behind the extractor. You might want to look some up. Remington and Winchester both make it. I was lucky enough to have a gun club reneg on 10000 pcs of U.P.B. when I had my gunsmithing business so I have 30-40/303 brass for life! :) ~Muir

Yet another vote for 6.5x55 Swede.

No cons as far as I'm concerned, has done all I've asked of it so far. 140gn Federal Power Shoks spot on. :-D

Lee, is that the correct way to hold a red stag while posing for a photograph? I only ask because i was wondering what you were doing with your left hand

Thar, I am with you on this one. Abstaining. ;)

Hi Buddy

I am holding back, but it is getting more difficult. ;) I thought we had put this one to bed and the first posts looked promising. However if somebody has a forum name that includes his calibre you know you aren’t going to get a rational debate. :-D

LEE, surely this is too young to be taking out, is it not? Doesn't look like it's much past its 2nd/3rd head :( Poor bugger probably only 3-4 years old and looks like it might have made a nice head by 8 years old.
