6mmbr or .243

Hi Bob,

Sorry wasn't doubting your word and should have worded my post better. What I meant to say was if going for a magazine fed 6br you have to be very careful what factory action you choose, I had a remmy 700 which fed fine but had a habit of dropping the empties back in the magazine well. Like you say, I believe the Tikka 595 and Sako 75 don't suffer this problem due to the cartridge specific magazine and sako style extractor.

Hi bk, I apologise too bud my reply was a tad sharp, I know and fully understand what your saying, you are correct of course some actions will not handle that wee case, if I was having a br built now and had little or no understanding of its issues I too would ask th samecquetions

Regards and respect

Bob

Am I on the wrong forum!?!??!
Respect and acceptance!?

what's going on?
where is the vehment and blind defence of a calibre?

everyone being awfully polite

Forgot to mention , bought my rifle from new and it was a Sako 75 varmint laminated in factory 6PPC USA and had no problems with feeding - after some 4000 rounds through it , it was re-barreled with a Krieger tube - 1 in 12 twister again , with a 270 Lapua neck ...

As long as the rifle is accurate - it inspires confidence!!!
All the best...

What a lovely civilised thread. Pity I'm no closer to to making a decision. It's only made it worse by throwing 6mmrem into the mix :)
But honestly, thanks so much for all your input,It's been fazinating, but all things considered, availability of stuff etc,.243 has to be the obvious choice. It's been great guys and thanks again. Cheers

now I recently sold my .243 and am really wondering if I keep the 6mm slot or go for something else
I have a .270 so a 6.5xwhatever is a bit close and doesn't solve a problem
the next rifle down is .222

I feel a hankering for a "Bob"
nice .257 Roberts or maybe an ackley!

I shoot a single shot 6mmbr. 30gr powder under a 105gr hornady A-max through a 26" barrel achieves 2900fps.

A friend uses a .243 in a similar setup. All be it a repeator. 10 grains more powder, more recoil, more noise and loss of sight picture on high mag.

The 6mmbr is a sweet shooter. Get behind one and I think you will agree. It is a hand loaders round to truly obtain full potential.

Currently the only rifle I am using is a .308 tikka T3 Varmint because family life takes president over reloading. Something I didn't take into consideration when having the 6mmbr built.
