7mm PRC

I’ve been following the prc line closely and it will be a good cartridge for sure. Personally I’d say not really needed for uk deer but those magnum men like a big one and why not. I’ve alway fancied a PRCW which is a 6.5prc necked up to 7mm which might be the perfect balance of recoil MV and high bc bullets. The dies might be a pain to get though I think cortina precision makes them.
Mind you I’ve never seen a deer yet that won’t die just fine with a 6.5 bullet placed correctly and mine is lethal to further than I ever shoot (should do the business up to 600m theoretically ).
That is surely, based on powder capacity and bore size, just a .280 Remington for short actions?

It's about F open really, getting top end 284w velocities without the pressure, case life extension etc.
I was more commenting on @Utectok’s suggestion of a 6.5PRC necked up too .284.

The 6.5 PRC has a very similar capacity too .280 Remington, so necking the case up is goi g to produce a short action magnum bolt face .280.

The .280 is very close to .284, as you know, it just runs in a long action and burns a bit more powder for similar velocities but at lower pressure, which would give you your better case life.

The point being it would do what @Utectok is mentioning without the need for difficult to obtain dies.

Aye, I should have clarified, that's what I was referring to, the necked up 6.5prc variants.

@Malxwal @Hearties

Hah, thought I'd read of it done.

I would use that bullet but the are exceedingly long and eat into powder space for the 7mm SAUM.

I am also interested in the speed you are getting. Factory ammunition is reportedly very slow.

If doing it again the 7mm PRC is the way to go.
I have saw a lot of videos stating that factory is very very slow.
It’s a cartridge that you must home load for to get the performance out of it.

Not had chance to check the speed bu Will probably be over 3k. Correct they are a long bullet but it all fits in and not compressed.
