I have just had a conversation with a shooting friend who comes under a different licensing area to me, he was told he must not go out shooting, so he phoned BASC, the response he got was rather worrying, according to the person he spoke to, the rules have changed again, you cannot go out stalking on a recreational basis, you may only shoot deer on the basis of crop protection, fox and pest control is fine providing the farmer has asked you to, and only if the farmer does not have a firearm, or if he does, then does not have time to do it himself, what the hell is going on? I must stress, this is not my/his opinion, this is what BASC told him this afternoon, go figure
Then why have they not updated the advice on their website?

Maybe the person your friend spoke to had the wrong end of the stick, or he had accidentally called LACS! If there was that much of a shift again I think they would have updated, as they did straight away at the start saying if you went out your insurance would be invalid....Yes I totally agree, and I have just checked my email and had the latest update, stating that it is fine to go shooting, you really could not make this up

these are the updates to the law, these are not interpretation
it allows now to
to visit a public open space for the purposes of open-air recreation to promote their physical or mental health or emotional wellbeing
stalking is open-air recreation that promotes physical OR mental OR emotional health, in reality probably all 3

I like that, but seriously when he is told rubbish like this at around 3-30pm this afternoon, and then I get the email mentioned earlier, who the hell are BASC employing to give out information, I'm totally baffled.It does seem odd I agree, until they update I’ll be out, may leave the stalking tonight and do some longer range bunniesCalled Lacs
Perhaps this is where adequate representation would have been what was needed.
A phone call to DEFRA and the HO asking for confirmation that stalking was permitted under the governments 'Laws' and then a use of political lobbying to obtain that confirmation quickly would have clarified beyond a doubt what was 'accepted and lawful'. That piece of paper would have guaranteed the 'serfs' the right to take the 'Queen's deer' in accordance with the law, whilst the Sheriffs on Nottingham, TVP, North Wales etc fumed.
BASC apparently resiling on their previously 'advertised' and vaunted position and people left to chase the truth, doesnt do much to correct the impression many have after lead etc etc etc. Assuming any confirmation was required. Shambles - avoidable shambles.

I rang basc yesterday and spoke with there firearms man he said until we ha e had confirmation from the government hold on we should receive clarification soon literally five minutes later a statement put out by them they have not a clue unless it's free cartridges and food on offer
Forgive my ignorance here, but why are you calling a different areas police?
No change in Scotland might be the reason for that

I said the BASC’s guidance often didn’t match the law. They are right to say we can go shooting, England anyway thats all I’ve looked at. However when we are now going shooting its now a reasonable excuse to be out of our homes. We still can’t leave home willy nilly. The link you have sent is an amendment to the act. The act is still in place keeping us at home but has been amended for more reasons to be out of home. It legally has to reviewed every 21 days. So expect more speeches from Boris in three weeks ish.
