Yet more confusing stuff from BASC then, so why on earth are they sending emails and issuing statements saying it's fine to go SHOOTING, and then telling my friend earlier today he can't go stalkingI rang basc yesterday and spoke with there firearms man he said until we ha e had confirmation from the government hold on we should receive clarification soon literally five minutes later a statement put out by them they have not a clue unless it's free cartridges and food on offer
Left hand, right hand ? Maybe they dont talk to the right people. Perhaps they dont even know who the right people are.Yet more confusing stuff from BASC then, so why on earth are they sending emails and issuing statements saying it's fine to go SHOOTING, and then telling my friend earlier today he can't go stalking![]()
just dont go near wales and scotland save your pennies and get ryan air to france for a camping trip
But they take money from English members though..
Maybe they're not representing the membership eh![]()
Primum non nocere, surely?
Is that not the primary imperative for a shooting organisation? Shall we begin on BASC's list, or do you have it to hand?
Certainly in the case of my friend, he asked them because his licensing authority had told him in no uncertain terms, not to go shooting of any kind, unless it is his job, which it isn't, I suppose a fair question would be, why ask his licensing authority? Simply because he is a fellow who worries and want to make absolutely sure he was acting within the law.Why are people even asking them our prime minister told us all in england yesterday to go out.just dont go near wales and scotland save your pennies and get ryan air to france for a camping trip

Not at all Carl I'm well aware of BASC failings, many there are as we both know, and I've stated many times over I'm not the protector of them. However non of these organisations are flat our for the folks who sign up for their services, that's my whole point.Primum non nocere, surely?

You yourself stated previously how good you thought they were, bolshy was the turm I think you said, where are they now that some members need clarification on the present situation.
Not having a dig just making a point matey..
Sorry matey I just don't understand what you mean..As I said, first do no harm.
Sorry matey I just don't understand what you mean..
All perfectly valid point Carl an none I really argue, especially the last paragraph regarding police and the like having enough to do without so folk not being able to make a simple decision based on the current government guidelines.Before even considering the application of a 'cure', any professional must have regard to their primary responsibility, which is first, to do no harm, hence the popular: primum non nocere.
As far as I am aware, SGA have done no active harm to shooting. Can you list any instances where they have sabotaged shooters' interests? I can't.
Over the years, BASC, on the other hand, have done more harm to shooting than the Leage Against Cruel Sports. Truly! That latter organisation has achieved very little in its attacks on fieldsports.
BASC, however, has excelled itself:
Need I go on? Never mind what the SGA haven't done; you need to worry more about what BASC have done.
- John Swift defecting to the the anti-lead lobby and leaking an unapproved report against the explicit instructions of LAG: disowned but never condemned by BASC;
- physical and verbal abuse, bullying, threats-to-kill, police attendance, and the wholesale collapse of leadership at Marford Mill, bringing shooting and shooters into disrepute: neither explanation nor apology offered to members;
- the participation in (and subsequent welcoming of) a catastrophic medical scheme, in concert with the police and the BMA, which has had significant implications for UK shooters, particularly the less affluent;
- the new CEO (after the disasters with Swift and Ali), describing himself as 'disappointed', when NE - without warning (although apparently BASC was lobbying) - overnight withdraw all General Licences in England: Mr Bell's language was subsequently adjusted by his PR team in response to a shooter backlash against his previous cosy response;
- the self-described 'holding-pattern' adopted by BASC following the government's announcement of its intention to ban the import and export of 'trophies' to and from the UK, thus implicitly supporting the destruction of the livelihoods of a good number of our members (and the habitat they protect);
- the betrayal of ordinary shooters by the decision to campaign for a ban on lead shot, without consulting shooters or cartridge manufacturers, and while clearly having some kind of complicated financial interest in the sale of steel-shot game.
On the particular issue of covid19 shooting, now is not the time to get "bolshie" with either government or the police. Those organisations have enough on their plate right now without fending off aggressive lobbying from fieldsports organisations. I love fieldsports (they are my life), but they really aren't a priority at the moment. The new rules are pretty clear, in my opinion: stay home in Scotland, Wales, and NI; but feel free to go out for an increasing number of reasons (while observing social-distancing) in England.
Kind regards,
Carl
