Basc voluntary lead ban

The only sensible outcome, and I see that every single one of our organisations is endorsing it.

I said months ago, to much derision, that a ban was likely; far better to pre-empt it and manage it to least disadvantage. I know there is no science, that does not alter the fact that the public, and therefore politicians, see it as selfish shooters spraying what we all know to be poisonous and/or harmful stuff round the countryside. Its part of the death by a thousand cuts process, and in this one at least, we can show responsible behaviour and take the club away from them before they use it..

No amount of gum bumping, pointless blaming or show boating on here will alter what are .....maybe wrongly, but none the less widely held...misconceptions. It's a battle we can't win, and we need to pick our battles.

All this pro ban rhetoric is giving me reflux.
How many times do we surrender without fighting a battle,might as well hand your guns in at the next amnesty so that shooting and all associated with it can be buried. Jobs etc aren't a thing to be considered by the general public unless you are part of the urban masses. About time it was backs to the wall and fight before it is stand there and be shot. :old: :mad:

There is also a conspicuous lack of comments about the fact that the statement is jointly issued by the GWCT, the BGA, the CA, the CLA, the Moorland Association, the NGO, Scottish and Land Estates and SACS..........but I suppose that bringing that up would somewhat blunt the trendy anti-BASC sentiment.

The wilful misinterpretation of this statement is almost painful to read. "BASC have agreed a ban" - no they haven't. Our COLLECTIVE countryside organisations have requested from their members a voluntary moratorium on the use of lead and single-use plastics. Something that WILL happen eventually, no matter how much the collected members of online shooting forums cry about it. This, I suspect, is something that everyone is patently aware of, but chooses to ignore so that they can have a good online moan. The fact that the organisations are jumping ahead of the game, and in doing so attempting to show the shooting fraternity in a good light to the general public (who couldn't give a tinker's cuss about the actual science behind it all), is irrelevant to those that will use any stick to beat a particular organisation.

I stalk, I shoot driven and walked-up game, I flight and roost pigeons, I flight geese and ducks, I coach people in the use of shotguns, I am actively involved in the organisation and hosting of driven shoots A voluntary moratorium on lead, whilst inconvenient, is hardly going to stop me undertaking my hobbies. When demand for lead ammunition falls the manufacturers will VERY quickly fill the gaps with ever increasingly efficient alternatives. That is, quite simply, how businesses work. If they don't, they will not survive.

I shall now sit back and await the responses which ignore the actual body of my post, and accuse me of being "nothing but a pro-BASC lackey". I even have a list of those that I am expecting pass judgement first.....

It is not a ban, it is a voluntary moratorium on use.

There is a massive difference, except when using it to express righteous indignation...

And another one , I agree though we’ve all been let down , how ever the common argument that “ basc is our biggest org and therefore our best chance of survival “ kind of doesn’t hold water anymore does it ? I wonder what we’ll be “ welcoming “ next , a complete ban on firearms ownership perhaps ....

That's the exact reason I thought it'd be clay shooting. If they want to focus on lead in the environment there's a big difference between a farm that is shot over a few times per year and a clay ground that is used 5 days per week.

Although if they want to push any agenda like that it needs to be backed up by a reliable scientific study.
 
Well, every cloud and all that. Maybe the move to steel will open avenues for the game industry to pass more onto the wider food industry and consuming public? I doubt that will happen though, those opposed to hunting and shooting are unlikely to alter their stance based on a wholesale rejection of lead, its the act of killing anything itself that revolts them.

Glad there is, as yet, no mention of voluntary restrictions on the use of copper jacketed lead bullets. Although that is no doubt the next step and plans will already be being drawn up.

How does this affect air rifle users? No change?
