BDS .Insurance.

I just received a letter from them today saying they are and telling me at the same time that they are increasing membership fees.

I won't renew.

I tried in Jan for their insurance cover and was met with sorry but we are not taking on any further customers. Being a member didnt seem to matter.

I just put it down to the logistics of Covid.

I had the same (not offering insurance) when i was looking around at the end of last year after o stopped my BASC membership primarily for their changes to imsurance.

Went with NGO, found them very quick (needed some proof of insurance documentation ASAP) and friendly.

There are other alternatives to BASC,BDS etc.

I've not used them and have no affiliation .
Sub £20 for the basic.
Any one have any experience ?

thought bds insurance was always an add on thing, just something they sell rather than a component of membership? if they decide to stop selling something thats fine with me im sure they wont have taken the decision lightly. maybe being a charity has a bearing on this as they probably cant sell something at a loss without getting into bother regarding benefits. I am sure that i read something along these lines regarding another charity.

Is it right that the BDS is kicking their members insurance into touch???? Wf1
My renewal letter says, please note : Your membership provides insurance at all BDS organised events only. Should you require cover for personal stalking or country sports activities you will be required to arrange this elsewhere. That's telling me!

I have cancelled our membership as they told me that they were not doing insurance anymore. Then low and behold they say that the insurance is quoting them an increase of 300% We have now joined up to the NGO. As a lot of Stalkers have. Sorry BDS but you have shot yourselves in the foot. Wf1.

It is a situation brought on the BDS by the underwriters dropping this type of business - BDS had no option but to drop the service, only honouring those in existence until they expire. They could not find anyone to underwwrite the risk - i think a similar to the situation that BASC found itself in a while back.

From my 8 April Deerbytes newsletter:

Members Insurance
We understand that some members have been concerned by the situation we have faced recently regarding insurance. Our team have been working hard to find a solution and we are now delighted to be partnering with a new insurance provider to offer our members competitively priced shooting insurance. For more information contact Annie in membership from Monday 12th April 2021
.

So, the BDS is working hard for its' members. Let's see what the offer is. Other insurers are still available, for example Shooting Insurance: from £14.99 - SportsCover Direct can provide basic liability cover for £15, (Up to £10 million protection,£5,000 against Third Party Property Damage)

Or tailor a package to add on e.g. guns and equipment, personal accident, gun dog vets fees.

BDS insurance was always an add-on. They are negotiating a new policy with a new provider. Says so quite clearly in the renewal letter that I received...
