Be Aware...Lymes Disease

A story/heads-up...

About a month ago I woke with a sore shoulder, it got worse, and eventually spread all around the muscles in my upper body and top of my legs...as if I had been chainsawing for a week solid or been beaten up. In the first 10/12 days I couldn't lie comfortably in bed, spending all night in a chair watching all the crap on nightime TV. I was maximum dosing on paracetamol, plus a couple of nights took some stronger pills left over after I had extensive surgery several years ago. After 2 weeks I saw my doc, he thought it was some sort of virus. I asked him to do a blood test for Lymes. He said he didn't think it was Lymes but we'll do a test. Actually I agreed with him....the last time I knew I had been bitten by a tick was well over a year ago....probably over 2, and I had seen none of the classic symptoms that we all know about.

Positive test....anti-biotics start tommorrow.

If in doubt....ask for a test!

Just got tested for this last week, waiting for the results. You have to ask to be tested, it's not done routinely.

Good luck with it. It is serious. We have ticks galore in Perthshire. A friend came to stay and then went home to England. She had to go to three different doctors before they accepted it possibly could be lymes disease. Tested her and sure enough was. If in any doubt - push to get tested ASAP.

Bad luck - take the medicine and take plenty of rest. Focus on getting better, rather than trying to struggle on. It's a long haul but you do eventually come out the other side. It took about 18 months for me to get the all clear and then another 6 months to get any sort of fitness back, but three years on I am now pretty much back to normal.

that's no nice, hope you get well soon. I got my self a shirt and trousers from Darren from ROVENCE anti TICK. used them all stalking season and not a tick to be seen on me, they worked. but in my honest opinion it is the best on the market so far. the shirt is a very tight woven fabric and keeps the wind of braw the same with the trousers. he is a sd member. don't want to hi jack your thread just give you the heads up on this product. all the very best david

I had the test and it came back positive, my bloods went off for further testing and came back negative, my doc told me when it was tested positive it was a negative positive, the further testing came back negative but the doc said that doesnt mean I dont have lymes, its hard to diagnose, to my knowledge I havent been bitten,at least nowhere visable, doc also told me if i had been bitten 2 years ago it would have to he treated different, anti biotics are to treat it strait away, my symptoms persist and ive had every test possible and from a process of elimination ive been told ive got such a thing called fibromyalgia, its bloody miserable

I've had a couple of ticks in the last 2 days so they must be starting again with this nice weather. +1 for rovince gear, great stuff although i got lymes in november when it was cold. Not nice at all, the antibiotics can really knock you about as well, i was pretty rough with mine.

It certainly is... my wife has it, it's a very mis-understood condition and it's taken me a while to accept that it's an actual illness and not just her being soft.

I got similar symptoms 4 months after being bitten. Dr did the test, but I insisted on having the relevant anti bio's. The test came back negative. However the anti bio's seemed to cure the symptoms and for whatever reason they stopped after about a month. I have since found out the test is not very reliable, I think I remember a figure of 50% WRONG. So please try and convince the Dr to give you the anti bio's in any event

All the best mate I hope you get it sorted soon

This is sombering to say the least, and firstly may I wish you the best recovery gerard.
I removed a tick on monday morning, just below my elbow, and made an appointment with my doctor that day.
He asked if i had removed the whole thing, complete and if there was anything left, which there wasn'tas I used that special tool, and basically told me to keep an eye on it and if i develop a rash to come back.
I wasn't persistent,if I'm honest,but know i think I'll get myself a blood test.
He was also under the impresion that there was no Lyme dissease in Scotland.

Very sorry to hear Gerard and very best wishes for a fast and full recovery.

I've been ill since last August, with extreme fatigue/sleep/shortness of breath/dizziness/concentration. Doctor unable to diagnose anything other than suspecting "virus" related. After reading the DSC1 manual I wondered about Lyme's, but the test came back negative. Helpful reading hard to diagnose and about fibromyalgia, as symptoms are very similar just without the pain. Will mention to the doctor next visit. Thanks for sharing that Swarovski.

EDIT: Just seen latest posts about test not being reliable. Thanks gents, think I'll be going back to docs.

get well soon neebs, this is not a nice thing to read, i wish you well in your recovery.

bob.

I was bitten by a tic and knew about it because of the size of the colouration and itchyness.
I was not well for about three months then one day I just couldn't get out of the bed so my wife rang the Dr, gave my symptons over the 'phone and she was round my house within ten minutes.
I was very lucky indeed because this Dr knew about Llymes disease and jabbed me straight about to 'Bash It' using her words ! and then anti-biotics for several weeks with blood tests every two weeks then down to every month. The thing with the blood tests is that sometimes it came back clear and then the next was Trace so I had to have several to make sure it was clear.
I think I was not in the best of health for the best part of a year, even now after three years I am not as fit as I used to be.

The muscule soreness is awful nevermind everything else , the thing is you look perfectly healthy, its hidden beneath the skin.regards to your wife si

I had the blood test last week waiting for the results, I have all the classic symptoms of lyme's and get bitten on a regular basis as its tick central in our area.

Get well soon,
I got quite a bad tick bite 5-6 years ago on my waist and a few days later it had the 'bullseye' rash went to the docs and they refused to test for Lyme disease, I was gradually getting more and more tired etc.. , went to hospital for an op in 2012 (nothing to do with the bite) since then it's been horrible I have no heat sensation so I'm covered in burns as I can't feel the heat, I'm black and blue and the bullseye rash has spread quite a lot. Got a blood test a month ago and it was sent to the infectious diseases unit and got told that they think it's caused by tick hook that has rotted while still in my skin :( been put on very strong antibiotics for 1 week at the moment, then blood tests so on.
a local forestry ranger has the same problem he went to the docs 5yrs ago about a tick bite and they wouldn't do much about it till he was really ill with it
