Best gun for deer

Yanik is 14. I would advise you to have a look at all the deer-legal calibres on guntrader.uk. You have to think not just about the rifle, but probably a scope and moderator as well. As it will be a while before you can even apply for an FAC, if you can get out stalking with an adult in the meantime, it's worth seeing what the stalker has as kit and equipment and asking a few questions as to why they are using what they've got.

Lots of choice, and lots of prices but at least you have a bit of time to save up for your first rifle.

An offer of mentoring from someone on here would go a long way . I'd do it , but I'm on the other side of the Atlantic . I'm part of a mentoring program here , I think I enjoy it as much as the young , and not so young , men and women that come out hunting with us . Just a thought .

He can apply and be granted an FAC at 14 what he can't do is buy a rifle nor borrow one under the estate rifle clause but
he can be gifted one.

i didnt realise the op age, my comment was a joke. any thing above 6mm, 6.5 and 308 probably most popular and versitile

Yanick , we was all in your shoes once, take this as advice and not criticism, if you can get out with any one in the countryside, please take every opportunity, learn how it all works , different birds , mammals, get out ferreting or shooting rabbits with an air rifle, learn basic field craft and skill , and more importantly gun safety, you may do this already,, we dont no , progression is the best way forward , you will learn a great deal and take it in at your age , a case of walking before you can run , you will get a lot more out of it than just shooting a deer ! It will be a better way to learn , get a pair of binoculars, stalk deer with them , watch and watch some more , you will see more than you realise and get more enjoyment out if it , good luck and let us all no how your progressing .

What’s the best CHEAP rifle for deer
Good on you for getting started! Its a buyer's market out there, its unbelievable the kit you can buy secondhand. Plenty of good advice above. All I would add is that threading and a moderator is essential, and aim to buy something that is medium weight and fits. Excessive recoil in a rifle that doesn't fit, without a moderator is very detrimental to accuracy.

I would say it should;
1) Be within your budget
2) Be deer legal for all 6 species
3) Have a ready supply of ammunition that you can get easily.
4) Ideally be able to swap over to lead free ammo when the ban is inevitably forced on to us.
5) Fit you well so you can shoot it accurately.

Also bear in mind that you are better off spending the money on decent optics than you are on a flashy rifle. Theres no point in spending a grand on the rifle and £200 on a scope that has rubbish light transmission.

Personally I'd get something in budget in .308.
