Best quad

Hi all,
Looking for recommendations for a quad bike for extraction. Also, has anyone had any experience with the Segway snarler?

Honda 420 or 500 type things are pretty bomb proof and if you do cowp them they aren’t bad to roll back over / manhandle unlike your big can ams, Suzuki 750’s etc

I’ve a Honda TRX and an old KLF Kawasaki. The bigger engine Honda is the more powerful by far but much easier to roll and hence more dangerous on steep terrain. That’s mainly because the Kawasaki was made properly and around 100kg heavier meaning the Honda will have rotted away long before the KLF. I’ve had the KLF in some precarious situations where the Honda would have gone long before. Luckily the weight of the Kawasaki kept it from going over. I also use a Yamaha Grizzly now and again and if buying new it would be a better bet as it’s better made IMHO

Another vote for Honda quads. You need to think about what terrain and loads you are looking to drag or manage. Smaller models are easier to handle in rough hilly terrain in my opinion, smaller one's are easier for use in thicker woodland. If you get stuck it is easier to recover smaller ones on your own!

If you are on mainly tracks and open ground the bigger ones will carry much more load. I've got several and they all have their pro's and con's. I've always had good luck with Honda and they can always be sold for a good price.

Suzuki King Quad 500, incredible levels of traction with 4wd and the rear diff lock. Had it over the axels in thick mud towing and it just seems to keep going through anything..

I have a Honda trx 300, bomb proof engine, easy to manhandle but getting old now so a daunting proposition to buy. A nice 420 Honda circa 2010-12 with low miles would be my next buy.

I once spoke to a quad bike salesman, 30 odd years in the game (sold all sorts) but he swore by Honda farm quads for durability-above all else. The older ones are much more simple, and forged the reputation, but they aren’t invincible. Mine has just had a start motor and engine bearing.

Something to consider is the smaller Honda’s /Yamaha ect are easier to man handle if you get stuck but are more inclined to cowp on rough/steep ground the bigger bikes Honda 520 Yamaha, can am ect more stable better suited to carry waight or pull trailer but if you bog them it’s much more difficult to man handle them. On smooth fields any bike will do

The rear open type rear axle on the earlier 420 was an expensive source of trouble,the post 2014 ones with black not silver wheels are ok. If you end up with a early type a main dealer told me the the lock nuts need to be torqued to 180ft/lbs, not the factory 40.

I would stick to the most commonly, most popular used bikes. If you are on rough, steep terrain don't pick a bike with a mono-shock.

Do you mean single central shocker/spring? If so, why I wouldn’t like to push my TRX 350 on the terrain the old Kawasaki is comfortable with.
