The boar around Akbuk are getting brazen, the ground is rock hard so they can't forrage which means they are venturing into the town to knock over bins for an easy meal.

I was at a Night Wild Boar hunt this weekend and I shot dead 3 wild boars . One of them was huge, I thought I'd share it with you guys

These boars are pretty lucky , they got everything that the nature can offer to them. Also currently it's just before the mating season, so they must collect as much energy as they can because they will be using it soon on female boars.

hi doublecheese, I have just come back from oludeniz i stayed in the Montana pine resort,underneath where you took that photo, i done some walking around that mountain and there is a lot of tracks that wild boar are using, i asked some of the locals were there wild boar and they told us there are loads, i heard a rifle shot a few times over the two weeks we were there,but as someone said a lot of scrub ground and hard going with the steep pine woods, it would be best to sit over a bait point, as its very hot there,

The ones I shot at Oludeniz were shot at night at specific feed points . In other words the Hunting Outfitter feeds the Wild Boars with Corn and stuff at specific points and we stalk towards the feeding points at night hoping to see one eating the corns.

Oludeniz area is very hot and not suitable for day time hunting as you mentioned. It's better at night. But I know that some hunter go there during the day to shoot the BEZOAR IBEX

I know group of friends who go to Turkey for wild boars, they know the locals who will provide shotguns,vehicles,accomodation,beaters and dogs. it is informal wild boar shoot, they always have good laugh,eating,drinking and shooting day time, and very cheap.

This weekend I am driving to Nallihan, Ankara .

Some outfitter organized a formal wild boar hunt there and there will be 12 of us hunting. All hunters with rifles, no shotguns. This will be my fist driven hunt at this new season. The price is about 1000 TL/hunter which is about GBP 310 this price includes 2 nights hotel stay and all the food and beverage ( Alcohol is extra) . Shoot as much as you like

The driving cost is on us on this one . but it's only 250km away .

I will be attending other driven hunts this year and the price is between 1000-1600TL depending on the territory. But these outfitters are using another pricelist to the foreigners. ( a little higher I guess)

However when it comes to Night Hunts ( feeding hunts ) the prices go up a lot because you are guaranteed to Shoot Huge wild boars with big tusks...

BTW, since my English is NOT so good, what do you guys call this kind of "Feeding Hunt" ? I know there is a specific word for it but I can't remember it.

its called baiting, you feed up in certain areas with what we call bait points, that the pigs get used to and then we sit up in highseats, and shoot them,

Yes, baiting , exactly...

In our case we walk to several baiting points one by one rather than waiting for the pigs to come.

You seem to get a few boar doing it that way. Do you find that they can smell you when the wind is wrong.

If they are already at the bait point as long as you are dead silent, you will get the chance to shoot them.

If you are already waiting for them before they arrive, they might smell you and stay away.

There's a bait point right infront of our apartment... a big galvanised rubbish bin. One night I heard an almighty crash, went on the balcony with a high powered torch I bought for 50tl and there was a huge pig head butting the bin. Once it was over another 7 appeared to raid the contents.
Another night we counted 23 along the mountain road.
We're back there in October for a week, one of the local bar owners has a brother who shoots boar and he's agreed to take me out.

I am assuming your apartment is at Turkey You should go for it. It would be such fun.

I noticed that while these pigs are concentrated on eating they do not care much about what is going on around them. I remember getting as close to them pigs as 2 meters with a tractor and they did not run away.

But don't forget, big male boars always go alone and they are always alerted.

I strongly recommend a Flir LS64 to see what is going on around you at night.

Look what shot during my weekend driven hunt



Some of you guys PM'd me about me organizing a Driven Hunt for you UK hunters. Well I can't organize it myself as I'm not licensed to do such things but I informed my outfitter and he told me that he would be glad to organize such hunts either driven or baiting for you guys . If you can create a group of at least 7-8 people we can make a driven hunt + baiting hunts whoever wants one. Let me know. I can join you guys aswell .
