Breakfast ideas please.

Avoid carbs, eat fat and protein, cheese omelette may be
This is not good advice for someone with diabetes.
Firstly calorie control is important, that’s why it’s important to cut down on the carbohydrates. Fatty foods are high in calories which over time leads to weight gain and risk of heart disease. Diabetes rarely happens on its own heart disease and a higher than average risk of a stroke come very quickly afterwards.
Control portion size, eat more vegetables, your main meal should be a quarter of a plate meat one quarter carbs such as potatoes or rice and two quarters vegetables. If you fancy a bar of chocolate eat it one square at a time over as long a period of time as possible don’t cut it out of your diet altogether as you will binge on it later. Eat at regular times don’t miss meals, grazing is better than eating everything at once. Your doctor should now give you a blood test once a year to check your blood sugar levels. You will not be on one Metformin long soon you will be on two and then four.
A little change in diet now will save a lot of pain later. I’m type two, my Father in law was type two and lost both legs due to blood circulation problems from diabetes this is what you want to avoid!!!

But he hasnt got diabetes yet. The idea that fat causes you to be fat i think is a hangover from cokes flawed science study. Carbs are cheap calories that the body doesnt need.
But each to their own

As I have been informed that I am pre-diabetic and must change my ways.
Any guidance please.
I have mainly been having porridge 5/6 mornings or Tesco wheat and rice flakes sunday morning. Special treat Saturday morning after shopping would be bacon sammich.
I am in exactly the same position as you! On my last visit to the cardiologist I was told that I was pre-diabetic and grossly overweight (That I knew already). I did a lot of searching about and have just (Last Sunday) started a No-Carbs Diet. There's plenty of info on the internet, especially Youtube where there are some very good recipes for really tasty meals. (One of my favourite pastimes is eating) The hardest bit that I struggled with was snacking so I spent some time making a batch of Hash Brownies using Cauliflour rice and when I tried one I was surprised at how good they tasted. With the right diet such as a no carb diet it doesn't mean you have to starve yourself, you can still eat well as long as you stick to the diet!
I hope things work out for you and you find your best method of dealing with the situation.
I wish you well Sir!

Worst advise ever. Cut out carbs of all kinds and skip as many meals as you possibly can. For to long salt has been blamed for the harm that sugar has been doing to us. Sugar comes from many places other than refined sugar and your body is expert at turning the likes of pasta, bread spuds and especially peas into sugar. 5 Years ago I was classed as a at risk diabetic so I cut out all carbs very strictly and did intermittent fasting sometimes for 6 or 7 days. I lost 3.5 stones in 3 months and was no longer diabetic but any skin tags, moles and dry skin also cleared up. Since this I have slowly got back to being diabetic again so I'm back on the diet. For me 5 years of enjoying food for 3 months dieting is worth it.

There is some interesting advice given in this thread. But perhaps we should start at the basic level.

Does the OP even know their TDEE? (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) Kind of hard to figure out a plan if you don't know where to start from....

Percentage of body fat?

Knowing those two things will at least frame the question to a dietary nutritionist, that can lend a hand in prescribing a diet and exercise plan that is targeted for your specific situation and body type (mesomorph, ectomorph, endomorph). Age is also a consideration, since our metabolisms and ability to synthesize protein change as we grow older (and also, our ability to recover from exercise).

There's alot of different ways to skin this cat, but everything starts with those first two questions.

Thanks for the input Folks.
I will know more after my appointment on october15th.
I am making changes already, in the biscuit area for instance;)
