BRNO Fox Model 2 .222 refurb!

http://thehunterslife.com/forums/showpost.php?p=115434&postcount=47

I have strayed from this recipe as I am using already made and used stuff and just added to it.
not sure it made much difference bewteen the recipes.

I have removed some items too early and the bluing looks a bit thin
keep them in a bit longer than you think

Thanks Ed, was a little busy this weekend!

You may note that in that particular thread it is mentioned that there is no hard and fast rule regarding recipe,
I usually mix around 20% nitrate to the caustic soda. Temperature is important.

well finally sorted the scope mount issue (by throwing the POS mounts away!).
back to cheap and cheerful Nikko Stirling 3-9x50 IR with 1" tube

bit snug on low Hilvers!!:

I bought a box of Privi 50gr SP for the purposes of getting on paper.
walked the POI onto the centre cross of my custom pizza base at 50yds

swapped to my homeloads:
Federal brass, CCI primer, 22.10gr N133 under 50gr Vmax (I have some ladder loads between 20.8 and 23.1gr, but these shot so well I didnt even try the rest!)
POI was 1/3" to the left but otherwise unchanged, so I can shoot deer or fox without changing scope settings

Moved target out to 110yds. (just easier than 100 where I was!)
slight breeze of 10-15mph
2 shots, POI sits an inch high.
by my wet finger in the air calculations it should be point and shoot out to 250yds -ish

sorry no photos of insanely small cloverleaf groups!
it was windy, getting dark and I didnt shoot that many of one load or one single scope setting.

suffice to say that the 2-3 on each setting or load all landed within 1/2"-3/4"
not too shabby for a cheap and cheerful "beater" and some "scoop loaded roll your owns"

Bring on the ginger menace!

well done mate....didn't know you had issues with Chris Evans though..

had an idea for an unmoderated stalking rifle but without an ugly knurled thread protector
I like traditional lines of a sporting rifle and the full foresight.

So when I had the barrel chopped I kept the unwanted piece and I have finally got round to getting it threaded

total fluke as the muzzle and foresight/protector were threaded separately but on fitting it, it was only about 10 degrees short of vertical

3 mins with a plane surface and some fine grit paper and it is clocked to vertical

just need to polish it a bit and reblue it to the same colour as the barrel

Mate that looks like a Sweet Rig.
Recently I have used a $1 rubber Thong, the black single plugger comes with a built in White line spacer. Less dense rubber and work well........ The one with the ball bolt handle as opposed to the spoon.
.

Are you fellas on the correct website???

Nice job on the rifle though, I have wondered about a .222 as a low noise foxer myself. What mod are you using??
