Bushwear and Meindl

Never mind all that rubbish, the consumer rights act is big on Fit for Purpose.

They don't get to define how you are treated you have rights under statute. Their processes or any 'warranties' that they graciously extend to you are meaningless, you can depend on the statute. Who cares what Meindl thinks, your contract is with Bushwear and they have sold you boots that are not fit for purpose. Stick it to Bushwear, what they do with Meindl is up to them.

Bad karma for Bushwear though.

If you want a good solid pair of stiff tough mountain boots have a look at the La Sportiva Karakorums. I got mine from and the boots have been superb from the start.

I was introduced to these by Austrian hunters. They found the Lowa and Meindles just too flimsy to give the toughness requiredIn rough conditions. I have a pair of Lowa Tibets. Ideal for pottering about, very comfortable but not for rough country - which I found to my cost in the Alps. They simply don’t have the stiffness to support your feet and to kick steps in broken and steep ground.

As for waterproofness. Most boots get wet inside through bottoms of trousers and tops of socks getting wet and water then running down into boots.

A decent set of gaiters is a must - they keep you legs dry, stop water running down and also stop water slopping over when your foot goes into a boggy bit.
Now they do look smart. Are they heavy looking at the build 🤔

No, actually surprisingly light. No heavier than my Lowa Tibets or my old Scarpa Mantas. I haven’t weighed them but don’t notice the weight at all when using.

They are stiff - and will support my weight in full with no flex with a just one toe on a step or on the side of the boot. You do learn a rolling gait for use on the flat. When carrying loads or on rough or step ground these sorts of boots are like 4 wheel drive with full diff locks.

I love them, but I know others who simply cannot get their heads around stiff boots. But then they always complain about feet and ankles hurting at the end of a hard day.

I've bought a lot of gear off bushwear for years....but no more after this their attitude over the boots that have a "known" issue is shocking.....will take my business elsewhere but would like my refund first so i can go get new boots 🙄 though thanks to meindl being so crap there is a stock shortage on most of the others mentioned 🙈

My Meidli have fails in similar fashion, sent the back to company and they say they can resole them for £105. They are not worn at all just coming apart.

Never tried the Karakorums, but they sound like my Glockners, I will definitely try them. 👍

Well I must be the only one with Meindl Dovre that have survived 4 years of contracting in Galloway with no issues, i use neatsfoot oil everytime I wear them, soles looking a bit smooth at the moment, might get them re-soled when the time comes, but after reading what others have had to say might just have to have a change..

I still have a pair Meindl boots but only because I bit the bullet and sent them to the approved UK re-sole agent at a cost £55.

The soles had not been worn down but rather had all-but disintegrated in storage. And I don’t mean as a result of being left in a damp shed for 5 years.

The new soles with a green band are doing just fine 10-years on.

Guess man-made materials will always me something of a lottery.

Worth checking out the la sportiva range, trango's are also good if you want lighter - tougher than they look. Others more climbing orientated. Karakoram is a great winter boot though...

I have two pairs of Meindl Dovre Extreme, ie the high ones. One about 10 or 12 years old, the other two or three years old. Both have been excellent.

The rands of the old pair have lots of fine cracks/splits in them, but this seems to be purely cosmetic. The sole (!) purpose of the rubber rand is to protect the leather from abrasion, and it does that whether crazed with little cracks or not. They have remained tight on the leather uppers. The actual waterpoofing is provided by the Goretex sandwiched inside the leather. I bought the most recent pair direct from Meindl, I seem to recall.

So.....the meindl fault strikes again...back in Jan a brand new pair of Meindl Dovre's lasted all of 1 day.....before the rubber rand started to peel away contacted bushwear sent them back....replacement pair sent a week or so later....so that pair on start of this shooting season lasted a few weeks.....rubber rand peeling away ....sent back to bushwear asked for refund as i don't want another pair....this time bushwear have sent them to meindl to wait 2 to 3 weeks to decide if they will repair or replace.....i don't want the boots back....why would i want them again....

Anyone else had this hassle with bushwear ?

And what alternatives are everyone else wearing....struggling as all my old pairs leak and bushwear are wasting time
Meindl Glockner have never let me down.
No complaints

Apparantly the boots have been repaired and will be returned to me for the same thing to happen again......happy days

I'm not sure why anybody buys what I can only describe as crap these days, something has changed at Meindl, years ago they were my favourite boot, but then things went down hill and Bramwell International were less than helpful
Because someone listen to the accountant rather than telling him to get back in the office and do what he's told and count beans.

I use the meindl Dover extreme. So far so good. They are fairly old so maybe the newer ones have an issue on build quality. I can recommend Altbergs too, had a pair of them for a long time before the meindls.

A deterioration of product quality aside, I fear the SD membership may be suffering from what I’m gonna call the “Swarovski Syndrome”. Namely a wholly unrealistic expectation of what they may expect from all other Customer Service Departments!

The Op may be pleasantly surprised with the longevity of the ‘repair’ if such has been undertaken by Bramwell and I’d be keen to know if they’ve used a completely different sole as my understanding is they cannot replicate some of the Meindl factory fitted ones.

Interesting reading.
I went to Altberg in Richmond a couple of years back, got measured properly and walked out with a pair of 8 1/2 Wide Gamekeeper boots. Could’ve had them with the rubberised finish in the leather but went for the normal leather look as I thought I could feed that more.
Very comfy, waterproof and British (mostly) so I’m happy I’m keeping someone in work in this country and not in a sweatshop in the Far East.
I accept I’m a recreational stalker so they do get a chance to dry out between trips but nevertheless I’m pleased with them.
£220 as I recall.
