Compulsory medical verification (with fee) - Beds./Cambs./Herts now.

As we have said many times, if a JR would fix this issue we ,or indeed another org would already have done it, I know that several of you won't accept this.
The resolution to this is as we said on our website, to get the Gp's engaged, markers on records. Then we get no further costs to the shooter, you can't do that with a JR.

Hi David
Of course we need GP engagement, although I rather think they are sided with the Chief Constables' standpoint from reading their submission - see here
https://www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk/threads/home-office-consultation-response-from-the-bma-here.182293/#post-1692410
however with shooting under attack from so many angles we surely now need a higher visibility and impact strategy to ward these attacks off. We must try to assert a position of strength because at the moment shooting is being absolutely walked over and appearing to roll over.
May I ask if BASC are currently working on such a strategy?
Cheers
Mike

David,
perhaps that is why BASC isnt doing it i.e. Your org simply does not understand tht if this happeed and was upheld, the use of pre-medicals and any medicals outside the process of HOG would be struck down and it would achieve what we all want to achieve - get it done. It doesnt cost much to start it and then, if it fails you can come on here and say - we told you so. If you are so sure go to a pre-protocol letter. Too many excuses not enough action - again.

For a £30M increase in extra medical fees for members and for a lot less than Catton hall - (Dianne Abbott for god's sake), the pre-action would answer any and all our questions.

This is at no cost just tell them you are going to publish their advice ------

Ignore the 'planning blurb' it seems many wish to use this process excepting BASC of course.

What? Deciding whether to move up two pegs to the right or three pegs to the left when next spending £3,500 of members' money on one day's shooting at Catton Hall?

Really listening to DAVID BASC and his continued denials over judicial review is like listening to Lord Halifax in the recent film "Darkest Hour". It's at about 1:05 if you want to hear it. Thank God that there weren't folk like you David BASC involved in Government in 1940.

BASC's refusal either to do as KES and others ask, or even to publish the advise is shameful. We have yielded the matter without even making an attempt at a riposte to it. Shameful.

Don't rock the boat BASC, just keep your gravy train going. Lunches with politicians, stands at game fairs, jobs and cars. Rely on fools to part with their money, sell them insurance, spend a fortune on best practice, keep different interests apart.
Then keep telling the suckers you are "The voice of shooting" some still believe you.☻

David, as I've said before, the marker isn't the issue, but being charged for the same imformation every renewal is. The old wording for the medical section was "since your last application", perhaps if we only had to pay every ten years instead of five it would be more acceptable to us.

I am fairly sure we all know what the problem is as it isnt rocket science to understand the MANY problems caused by the abuse of HOG 2016.
What is of concern is that BASC doesnt see it - ANY of it. One has to wonder whether this a defensive tactic of actually the truth - either way I wont pay £80 to an organisation that is operationally blind or untruthful - all they have to do is publish SOME legal advice?

You can't educate pork.

I'm thinking you missed the mention of the driven day at Catton Hall there FH?

And as my earlier post can someone who is a BASC member perhaps ask who the other guns were in the line if BASC paid for those pegs too? Other politicians? Other members of the Shooting Sports Council? Or in fact people on the BASC payroll?

Can someone who is a BASC member perhaps, please, ask?

They will not be happy with BASC when they get their medical request through the door. And if they think its not coming they are not living in the real world. As all police forces will be making it standard. This will be because no one has put up any fight to stop them.

It wouldn't be so bad if the fees were fixed and fair.
This. Should be a fixed amount throughout the country.
Fairly glad we don't have the faff of renewals, calibre restrictions, land clearance etc over here. Just a hunting course/test if you wish to hunt.

yes border but you forget we live in the uk you live in a proper country where politicians listen to reason and sense not here good look to you matey bs

I used to regularly go to Catton Hall on the 'high gun' shoots on Sundays - very nice too. Our Full Price & Package List For Every Activity at Catton Hall .
You would have to add a lot to the standard team building events quoted to make the cost the £900 ish claimed by the parliamentarians. So, a fair bet is it included travel and the fatted calf wrapped in gold leaf - maybe it was a weeks stay ?
In any event it is apparently expensive enough to have included all meals as well as everything else.
Being a team building type event, Catton Hall does not (normally ) have a gun line so I think its a fair bet, in the face of no facts from BASC that quite a number of others were there.
No point having politicians if you dont use all the coercive talent available.
There are about 20 on the Council, Lord Dear et al. Including the other members of the management team, (David is one of these) then we are probably at 25. I dont Know how many from BASC went but I would expect 15 or so.
Lord Dear, Chief Exec, C Graffius, Mr Harriman (firearms knowledge) etc.
Assuming say £300 for flights and Taxis (Manchester Airport ) its still a lot of money, even though BASC will have a big discount from Catton Hall. Maybe 20 overall went
- 6*900 - £5400,
Allowing for no hotels (maybe), no travel costs I reckon you are looking at maybe 15 * £500 for the rest (average). ( some would stay for drinks and chat ?) The total bill for all would be just shy of £13,000.
You could get 10 pre-protocol letters for that.
Its a hundred and sixty members contributions (if the assumptions are correct).
I wonder if those involved regarded this as 'work', where the expenses are hidden in the accounts, and whether (and the most important), a value for money assessment proved it was worth it ?
Political route -------HHMMMMMMMM.

Dear Doctor

I have applied for a Firearms / Shotgun / Explosives licence. I am required to supply a factual medical report to Essex Police which I am willing to pay for. I realise a fee will be payable and that the report will not be produced until the appropriate fee has been paid.

The report will need to include whether or not I have EVER been diagnosed with or been treated for the following conditions/illnesses:

 Acute Stress Reaction or an acute reaction to the stress caused by a trauma  Suicidal thoughts or self-harm  Depression or anxiety  Dementia  Mania, bipolar disorder or a psychotic illness, or a personality disorder  A neurological condition: for example, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s or Huntington’s diseases, or epilepsy  Alcohol or drug abuse  Any other mental or physical condition
which may be of concern
Furthermore, can I please request that only information relating to the relevant medical conditions impacting upon my suitability to possess a Firearm, Shotgun or Explosives are commented upon. The provision of a simple print out of my medical history will not be acceptable for this purpose.

Once the attached proforma has been completed please contact me in order for me to collect it. Please note that Essex Police are seeking your professional opinion on my health and wellbeing and are not asking you to make a decision on whether I am granted a Firearms/Shotgun/Explosive licence, the responsibility to make this decision lies solely with them.

I would be grateful if you could expedite as soon as possible. Yours sincerely,

)

There is a very good reason to believe that the police and BMA have conferred over this form - from the form of words highlighted in the draft letter - I feel sure that isn't allowed since it sails near the wind of conspiracy, in view of HOG 2016.

Hmmm can't think why some one would say iam happy to pay more !!! when they did't earn it ! I did ?? when I go shopping no one says to me if you come in my store you agree to pay what ever I ask , its up to me if I decide to buy, but in this case i'v been bent over by both and have to smile twice !!
