Cumbria Firearms...

Hi all.

I've been waiting 15 months for my renewals to come back from Cumbria Firearms.
My temporaries ran out last December

I have had to get BASC involved as the department are being very tardy with anyone who dares to ring them, yes that is actually true..

They responded to BASC with..

"We are now no longer issuing further temporary certificates and my renewals would be with me within a fortnight", which ended yesterday

I have been back in touch with BASC who are now chasing it up for me.

I'm getting very low on ammunition now...

Slightly better in North Yorks , but I was assured by the police that , even though my hard copy was out of date , it had been renewed 'electronically' so I was covered to still use my firearms / shotguns , not much help you if youre out of ammunition though.

In Sussex I put in for my renewal, got a letter stating automatic extension whilst they sorted backlogs, and if I wanted to purchase ammo to show the letter with the old FAC,

I've got a 270 win, all paid for, sat in an rfd gathering dust..

I'm going to be reloading for it, but again can't buy the necessary kit etc etc

Perhaps raising your case with the police and crime commissioner would be an idea, seeing that he’s up for reelection in a month?

I am in Bedfordshire who are combined with Herts and Cambridge they are not perfect but when I regularly read these “ Horror” posts I am glad I live where I do
im with cambs few days shy of six months for me, id get your paper work in early.
their attitude is the same as above, they wont talk to me as it will take time away from renewals. utter shambles

Cumbria won't allow paperwork going in early...

Sorry to hear it, did my renewal of SC and FAC put it in early came back in circa 5-6 weeks. I spoke to them at The British Shooting Show at NEC in Feb to thank them as Beds were represented there

I am also with Cumbria, I have been on temporary certificates for the past 15 months. Had to chase them up in December to either issue new license or extended temporary certificates, same as you I got a rather shirty response, something to do with recording my home loads correctly. I’m going to be seriously unhappy if my new tickets are dated from when my renewal was due, and not when they they finally get round to issuing them.

Hi. Are you saying that all your certificates have expired both formsl and temporary?

If yes and you don't have any in date certificate, then I feel that is technically a criminal offence for you to be in possession of firearms.

Have you made BASC aware of this detail?
What did they say?

Wow, these timescales. Derbyshire aren't perfect either but I give them there dues, they respond either with a phone convo or voicemail within 24hrs usually and you can call them if needed. Variations are around 2/3 weeks.

That was exactly my concern. I sent them the following email and my extended temporary certificates were with me the next day:
Good afternoon
Further to my email on this 8th of this month. I still have not received either new temporary certificates or renewed certificates. My temporary certificates run out in 4 days time. As of the 1/1/24 I will have no valid shotgun or firearms licence. I feel this is unacceptable as I have been waiting for a year for you to issue my renewed certificates and I also made you aware of my situation earlier this month.
Could you please tell me if you have processed either my temporary or renewed certificates and if not where do I stand legally.
Thank you.

Yes.

Cumbria Firearms say that as "I am on file with them, as I am in the renewal process with nothing flagged up" I am covered.

They are no longer issuing secondary temporary certificates

All this is in the hands of BASC who to be honest are all over it like a rash for me

I’ve heard, though how true is another matter, that the Chief Constable of Gloucestershire will not sign off any more than one FAC application on any working day, I’ve also heard that this causes the licensing deportment no end of headaches.
If this were factual then at best only a maximum of 256 application would be signed off in 2024.

I'd really want that advice in writing..
And if they would not email you to that effect then I suggest you email them..
"Dear sir, I am writing to confirm the current situation, blar blar. And the advice, blar blar, that you gave me on dd mm,yyyy.

Allegedly if they do that they are commiting fraud
As a certificate has to be dated from the actual day of issue not when the last one expired.
This apparently has come from high up after someone actually took a firearms department to court over it

I am also with Cumbria and they issued me my new licence nine months after the original renewal date.I emailed them asking why it was backdated and asking for it to be reissued with the actual date is was issued to me,guess what my email made no diffreenec.

Well they didn't do that with me, when they issued me with my renewal last year,I was short changed by nine months !I emailed asking why, sadly made no difference.

Hmm.
Just short of three weeks for renewal last year which is pretty damn good judging by these posts.
I am sure this amazing performance had nothing whatsoever to do with me writing to the CC the previous time quoting the Sale of Goods Act (as it then was - I think) and advising him that as he had cashed my cheque and more than six months had then passed he was in breach and I was going to take him (by name) to the Small Claims Court. Posted the letter on Monday; my FAC mysteriously popped through the letterbox on Thursday - a full hour after postie had been - could only have been a coincidence, surely…..
