Custom Riflesmiths

Anyone have experience of Pete Walker, (Walker rifles), or Russ Gall (RG rifles)?

Genuine enquiry as looking to put work one way or the other, pm me if any particularly strong views, as I am not looking for mud to throw, just a good smith!!

Regards

He`s a Policeman not a Rifle smith which is a whole world of difference..[/quote]

We'll I only said he builds great rifles which is true, he also shoots a lot. I just get the feeling he is motivated and works very accurately. Sometimes more important than it being the main job.

I have a custom Sako that was built by Roedale in Germany. In my case I received a very good rifle at a very good price and had it back before the season started. Others complained about longer waiting times with him.

It is obviously important to get on well with the builder, just to be able to receive as much advice as possible and get the rifle one wants.

Here`s my details. I`m a Bricklayer no big secret. Like he`s a Policeman. Its no big deal.
How many is a string of rifles by the way? when did he find the time to hone his skills in this trade and for how long??
Because if i mentioned to a potential customer that i`d only been laying bricks for just a couple of years i think a few eye brows would be raised, lol.
Max i`m well in order ;)
My advice is to avoid the back street metal fettlers because quality craftsmanship is never cheap so why take the risk.

May be an apt time to make a post;

I have made one or two rifles, they shoot adequately, I do not and will not advertise, my interest is not commercial.

My builds allow me to practice and hone my skills, so that one day, when I retire, I may go full time.

There are numerous gifted custom builders out there, if I were to name them all, there would be a big list (both from here and the US)

Oh

Hi there Mark, (Hunter V)

No harm in pursuing a dream Andy. With the correct training i`m sure you`ll get there in the end.
One things for sure unless you work with an old hand you`ll learn nowt from yourself.
Good luck with the gong shooting..

My dedicated shooting buddy has several rifles built by Norman Clarke, on Sako actions and they are excellent. His latests baby .17 Remmington Fireball I believe was made by Mr Pope.(Walther barrel). Must say it is deadly with 20grn ballistic tips as 9 foxes have discovered since Xmas.

rifle build

i have two old sako A11 that have been re barreled by norman clarke both shoot one hole groups at 100 yds i have known norman since he moved to rugby and would not go any where else some people say a bit pricey but what price do you put on a first class job and that sort of accuracy . Others have a good reputation but cant fault my local man muddy

Neil McKillop gets all my work. He's delivered exactly what he said he would, exactly when he said he would, every time.

Another vote for neil mckilop. He built me a 20br that shoots sub .25 groups he is quick and doesn't charge to much.I have used callum fergeson his work is superb :( but hell he can charge
Cheers sean

+ 1 for mike norris, he has done work for me and there was no one else in there only us 2 and his jokes

Think on this Vim,

One of the most respected London gunmakers was started by a Tobacco salesman, shooting was only a hobby. But at the age of 34 he designed his first shotgun action. Harris Holland went on to start Holland and Holland no less. Wouldn’t mind a gun from this untrained back street fettler.8)

Norman Clark built me a semi custom rifle by rebarrelling a Sako action, lapping the bolt lugs, pillar bedding and refinishing the stock and the result is a pleasure to look at and more importantly shoots extremely well. It did take a few months however due to Krieger delivery times for the barrel.

I like this new site, banning idiots is easier and more fun. It even tells you under their Avitar that they are banned !!!
