Deer hide, what do you do with it?

I’ve got the head of the first roe buck that I shot and I tanned the hide of the first doe. I used K-Tan and it worked well but softening the hide was an awful job so I’ve not done any more. What does anyone else do?

It’s about four years since and the hide still looks lovely. I took it in November.
I have a nice black fallow skin in my lounge that I did with K tan about five years ago, still really nice. I want to do a fox skin to make a hat whilst I walk around town, I like to be noticed.

Pliable enough for most purposes, but not enough to "drape" (for example if you wanted to use it as a throw over the back of a comfy chair).
Yes, mine can be draped but it gets used as a rug so your method would have been easier.

Wheelie bin
I had an extraordinary conversation once with a council lady about an extra bin for deer waste.

She flat refused to believe anyone could kill their own food !
