Deer training proposals risk leaving Scotland short of vital deer managers

Connor, what surveying of members opinions did BASC carry out to inform its anti mandatory training position?
Ought they have done that sinply to maintain the status quo? It's obviously im the interest of members not to have mandatory training. It makes no difference to those who think training is beneficial and practical for them.

I personally don’t agree that’s it’s in the interest of members at all. It’s easier, but from a deer management point of view I think mandatory training (and better training) is part of the way forward.

I think BASC does some good work, but sadly the deer sector is very reluctant to look critically at itself, and I think sadly they could be part of that problem. I’m just interested to know how policy decisions such as this are being made.

I take your point but opposing a mandatory change is hardly a change in policy decision.

I don't really want to debate why you think mandatory training is desirable, but surely you recognise that there is uncertainty, differing conditions across the country and a range of reasonable views around the topic? Given that, forcing a particular view seems unwise to me, and apparently to BASC.
