Deerstalking Fair, 23/24 March 2013

I think that any one that is in to deer stalking and deer management should go to this event. I would imagine the pro stalkers will pic up some good business from this event. Lets make it a yearly pilgrimage.

We are planning a 4x4 load , looking forward to it :-D

No-one more than me. I hope the social side of it is a success as I am looking forward to meeting those I have conversed with on here for almost the last 3 years! Will that mean a more sociable dialogue afterwards on the SD.... or even more p*ss taking?

Probably lots more p*ss taking I should imagine. But at least we will all know who we are taking the p*ss out of now.

JR - do let us know when webpage sorted and if you can e mail a banner link we'll get it on the website.

ChrisC - we've seen some of those 'faces' at other fairs over the years... sometimes imagination is kinder:D ... then again the same comment has been made in the other direction!

I will drop you a PM...

I have pinged the website link around students etc.

A fair bit of interest

Only problem, it's not clear where it is?

Sorry if this has been covered already, but I had a dozen emails this morning, asking :)

First page has a link for the BUAS, it has a map highlighting the location of the showground on it.

The Fairs website has been revamped and will go live in replacing the current one shortly and there will be a map of the venue included on there as well. It is very easy to find, only a minutes drive from Kelso town centre, and trust me, Kelso is no metropolis!

We are getting a few thousand flyers printed up as well, would it be worth sending any up to you for the college or anywhere else roundabout? I'll get some up to Gregor as well and out to any traders/exhibitors attending.

I have to be honest and say that the nerves were setting in for a while in the hope this was a success. It appears that from the distance folk are prepared to travel to get there it should be.

The plan is to make it an annual event if there is demand for it from the traders and public attending. We will see no doubt how that is on the weekend!

All feedback afterwards, both critical and supportive will be gratefully received, and no doubt very, very forthcoming!!!

Calm and relax mate. Itll be a good weekend Im 100% sure of that with the time and effort you are applying. Yes youll get butterflies the week running up, its Human nature to get worried/excited. I dont think there will be very much critical feedback, and there will be definately loads of supportive feedback.

Thanks Nutty.

I was even asked by the caterers what I wanted available for those there with regards to food on sale and drink! Good news about that is that it will all be kept at a good price, including the bar. I said as long as he has a good choice of malts for a wee sociable dram I didn't think anyone would care!!!

there will also be Gin for any of our English friends of course... ;)

I hope there's going to venison burgers there. Yum yum.

Not all FEO's are alike!!!

I have just been contacted by our local FEO's, serving police officers, who offered to attend at the fair and answer any questions (uncensored!!!) on any matters relating to the Firearms Legislation, applications, authority to possess, good reason in fact anything you want to throw at them!

To be fair they have done nothing except offer assistance and support for the event and have made sure RFD applications for attending have gone through smoothly.

Therefore I thought it only fair in return to tell them they will be offering themselves up for the slaughter! Even offering to host a Q&A session on all matters relating to the firearms side of deerstalking.

Not often you will get an open forum like that to air your issues and put a few rumours to bed for ever!

Quite commendable IMO. Obviously their experience is North of the border but the HO guidelines are still applicable.

Well, that's it done!

All available trade/exhibitor space in the halls is now taken!

We think we have managed to cover all aspects of deerstalking in who is coming as promised. I will happily be told afterwards that we may have missed something out though for next years event but to be honest having gone through the list I cannot see it! We have some extreme kit going on display including a trailer (for sale or hire) that offers a self contained refrigerated larder, prep room and shower room for the stalker! For contract work or visiting a distant syndicate ground is there a better idea? Taxidermy, larder equipment, dogs for deer/tracking, rifles, optics, CIC tropy measuring, custom knives, shooting organisations, photographers, hotels, 4x4/ATV, sporting agents, clothing, the list goes on and on. We have about 4 or 5 different short presentations organised for each day in the smaller hall that will be announced on a notice board, and free enty to prize draws that will be made in the afternoon of each day provided by Scott Country. We have to finalise the details but a quality pair of Swarovski binoculars and telescopic sight (one on each day) will also be won in a draw again handed out on each day so no waiting to find out if you have been lucky or not, plus a runners up prize of a Country Covers stalking smock (pick your size on the day from their stand!) Tickets available on the door. The Deerstalking Fair website will be updated as soon as we have the full details of the prizes. The site is being updated daily to show more details of all those coming.

The bar is sorted and told to have decent beer and a selection of malts! Even the local FEO's and Wildlife Crime Officers wanted to attend and will have a stand there to answer questions (please go easy on them, they are nice folk!!!).

I would like to thank some of the organisations and exhibitors for their help so far in promoting and getting the event up and running. Namely Linda Mellor, Paul at Scott Country, Mike Cottam at SNH, CIC, Will at the Fieldsports Agency in sorting the website and in general all the other traders and exhibitors who have 'taken the chance' to commit to attending at the first dedicated Deerstalking Fair.

The comments over the last year have ranged from 'long overdue...', to 'excellent idea...' which told us that we were hopefully doing the right thing.

I look forward to meeting some of the guys off the SD including the owners who have also offered support and encouragement in organising this event.

And if anyone turns up who I have upset over the last 3 years on here I am sorry, it was (mainly) in jest! You can speak to me about it over the weekend if you want, I will be easilt spotted as I am in the company of my brother, he is 6'8'' and 21st...

Sounds like its going to be a good 'un!
Don't think you'll need to change much if anything - more like refine some of the details

Looking forward to it

Ed
