Deerstalking Fair, 23/24 March 2013

I notice this thread has been running since May and for reasons unknown iv just found it . . . . .what a great idea . . I'v stopped going to game fairs because i'm sick of being robbed blind to get passed the gate, and robbed again for a burger and chips once inside . . . If not working I shall def be in attendance. . . .I shall also bring my dog and set out a 30 yard trail with a rutting stag at the end of it to prove once and for that I have the best deer dog on the SD site.

Still trying to chase up hotels to pass on to traders, they are a nightmare!

Got confirmation today that Brock & Norris custom rifle builders, Jelen Deer Services, Allan Wood Knives and Galloway Stalking Supplies are attending.

Looks great but sadly a little to far for this Lowland stalker:

350 miles from London
In current traffic 6hrs 38min ETA via M1 A1(M)
Entrance fee £5
Diesel there & back circa £350

Enjoy

Thank you for those words of encouragement! We hope that those come enjoy the day and the social side of it as much as looking at the trade stands...

Chance to put faces to names and perhaps do some swapping of sport etc???

The wife is sorting that weekend with her work, were going to book a B@B and have a weekend away.

Diesel £350?? Jesus what do you drive??? Flight from London to Edinburgh £60....:thumb:

Sometimes the obvious escapes even the best of us! Good suggestion and even more so given I won't need to concern myself the restrictions on flying with powder an primer as I doubt there will be any in the country by then.

Looking to organise a club coach trip.

Cheers

Not seen much as in advertising this event locally or publications... Get it on radio borders lol... And all the local papers and sporting mags .... If you need a hand with flyers i can get them posted on local notice boards.....

I know the folk at radio borders well but not sure if advertising there would fit in with their diversity protocols, but believe it or not I had thought about it???

The event has been advertised so far in Game & Countries catalogue, there are links to the event being placed on several organisations websites, BASC, BDS etc as well as traders who are attending. There is a press release going out next week to the sporting magazines for inclusion in next months publications and several thousand flyers are being printed for local circulation in suitable locations. We are also hopingbthat the likes of BASC and SGA may be able to pop something in their members magazines before they go out as I believe a copy from SGA is due before the Fair. There will be 2 or 3 roadside billboards going up in farmers fields A68, A7 and the A701 (think thatis the number for the Peebles road) as they are 3 main routes in and out of the borders, and lets not forget the almost 17,000 views this thread has had. Depending on how the press release goes we may also place a couple of adverts in the Shooting Times leading up to the event.

We are just getting the last of the confirmations of attending from businesses now, so will be asking them when the forms come back in to also place details of the event on their websites.

Sounds like it going to be a good un, bit of a bridge too far on fuel from kent on your own or with your buddy

Anyone thinking of hiring a mini bus or coach for a few lads local to kent, Essex, Surrey sussex areas to go up all together. ?

Hi Ronan

If you want to approach a society and organise that, they can get in touch re taking a stand, I have no issue with that at all and they would be welcome. However, we have tried to cover all aspects of stalking with some kind of representation from rifles, optics, knives, clothing, taxidermy, larder equipment, dog equipment, general stalking supplies, sporting agents and a few others without there being too much of one and not enough of another. The dog side of things will be more of a general dogs for deer approach with Rudi Van Kets from the Flemmish Scenthound Society and a couple of others being available to discuss suitable breeds (as they have experience with hounds, teckles, GWP's, labs), their good and bad points and training etc. We couldn't possibly start looking at representation for every breed of dog that may be used for deer.

I am not trying to put you off but for us to try and cover that in the organisation of the event would be almost impossible on top of all the other work. As I said, if a society wants to attend to promote this breed in work they are welcome and we will do our best to fit them in as the halls look pretty full already.

Hello, the organiser of this fair contacted me today, and was going to email me, however does anyone have a contact number for him?

Perhaps they could PM me?

Regards

Paul

custom knife makers? leather workers....., stick makers.............all members on here

OK I will stop now.

PS was out tonight everything perfect and never saw even a white erse running away.

just to say Scotland has Laws on knife selling that arnt in England you need to be registered and pay a fee to the county to be a seller bit like a RFD for knifes (unless its kitchen knives)

you need to apply for a temporary Licence for game fairs
