DSC level 2 registration through BASC

The point being
if you are interested in registering for L2
Why did you not give them a call to find out
personaly I don't think they ask enough questions about people's experiences but then once registered you hav plenty of time to actively gain relevant experience from speaking to AW's or even an outing with an AW to grasp a feeling of what is expected
as an AW I get a few calls from newly registered L2 candidates asking questions that really they should know the answers to already
but in your case you probably may be better putting up a new thread looking for advice on what to expect as you are looking to register for L2 but not sure if you are ready or not , instead of wondering if BASC assessment centre should be asking questions or not prior to your registry
if you are still concerned why not drop me a pm with some contact details and I will be happy to ring you to discuss with you what I would expect from a candidate prior to going on a witnessed stalk which may help you decide if you are ready yet or need to gain a bit more experience before hand
regards

Thanks for the kind offer, it is appreciated. However I know I'm ready. I need to do it to get on FC leases, nothing more, nothing less. It's been discussed at length with an AW and friend of mine who will be assisting with it. So with all due respect, I think you are reading far too much into things. I mentioned this happens when discussing shooting organisations recent on Moray Outfittings thread! I knew it was highly likely that the question was coming. But it doesn't mean I might not want to hear from other forum members on the subject. That is what a public forum is for after all...

I hope there is no further misunderstanding.

MJ, (Dont panic this is john , not Andy so I will be brief!!) lets look at your very first question . How many culls are needed? How long is a piece of string? How many driving lessons did you take before you were fit to take the driving test.? The same with Part 2 .Experience is the big word and getting it right for PASSING the criteria in front of the witness is a close second. We are all different at picking up and getting good at various things we do in life. So the same should be applied here. You just have to look at another post where Nick asked for advice on the Gralloch. He admitted he had gralloched around 7 deer I think. But also admitted he had forgotten all about lymph nodes!! So the advice from myself and others was to gain more knowledge and experience before tackling Part 2. He openly accepted the advice and agreed to do this. So he had 7 but could need another 7 to get it right.

But in the end he has to convince and show the witness who in turn has to be able to say to the assessor that it was all done well and acceptable.

So in other words the answer to your question is. There is no actual figure . But there MUST be some experience. Whats the point in wasting the candidates money and AW'S time by just sending out portfolios . There has been enough threads re "the gravy train", "money for the boys". Lets give someone the thanks for not trying to rip candidates off.
Finally MARY at the other end of the phone does have the candidates interests at heart. She has seen some diabolicaly completed portfolio's. So if she gets back to you to say that you could do with a bit more in one you have submitted. Please dont jump down her throat. She is only protecting you and herself from an assessor asking why has such a bad portfolio been sent out to him. Because he will send it back to you

So getting it right matters is the end product.
JOHN

ps. Hope that was brief enough

bloody hell lads - if you cant get past the girl on the front desk what are you going to do when your portfolio lands on the desk of an assesor with a penchant for chest shooting!
