DSC1

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to the Deer stalking directory for giving me the opportunity to do my DSC 1 at Grantham this last 3 days with the British Deer society. Nick and Chris done a fantastic job with clear and precise training. Having a laugh and joke while being dead professional at the same time
Everything was over and above my expectations I can’t praise these guys enough.

I’m another one on the BDS Course this weekend and had a very enjoyable and informative experience, learning with a good bunch of lads. I’ve been stalking for 15 years and turned 61 this year - never too old to learn and bring all the prior experiences into context to improve my skills. Great trainers from BDS and run extremely well.

SD has helped me enormously over the years with advice and opportunities; I’m very grateful to the site and Malcolm for supporting me to complete DSC1.

Onward to DSC2 now!

I am 65 yrs old and hope i passed and yes you get to meet a lot of guys on the course. 🙏 and good luck to other's who are waiting to hear if they have passed it is torture.

It would be great to catch up again mark

Reading all these posts about DSC1 has got me searching for a course!! 🤦‍♂️ I seem to have picked the wrong time of year though!

Plenty of courses around if you look. The time of year doesn't really come into it, though it is nicer to do the shooting test outdoors in nicer weather.

We had the IV on the course so got the results before we left.
They told us they don't do that any more. They said they got peed off with too many people complaining after being told they'd passed, only for them to go off for marking by an adjudicator and failed. Now they let them go off and you find out 4-6 weeks later.

But we had an internal verifier there that would have been the same person double checking the trainers passes and fail results.

The only one we have to wait for is the Lantra.

That's bloody handy then. A few from our course have been waiting the full 6 weeks and still haven't heard

I was confident on every test except the shooting test but I passed at first attempt found the test paper to be a tick exercise after doing so many mock test online. But the wait and knowing some have failed and one other as passed gets to you worried.
Think it is some thing to do with my age :old:

I wasn't too confident. Particularly before the shooting test, the conditions could have been slightly better. Managed it though so I guess anybody can.

David.
At least with the shooting test you know straightaway whether or not you've passed.
The shooting test was the only bit I was worried about though, as I was fairly new to rifle shooting at the time, and not a particularly good shot (and I agree that the weather conditions weren't great that day!), but still managed to pass using only the minimum number of rounds.
The rest was straightforward.

It's a shame, I think, that the new DSC1 lacks the Large Game Meat Hygiene element that was included in ours.

That's the good part you know straight away and the safety test. Then it can be a five week wait or so if you fail a part of the test and the next retest is in April2023.
