Way off thread and topic as iron sights are.The point im making is technology is there but you dont need to use it.Each to their own.Quick fixes dont always last.Any dog i have had has trusted me 100% before i have moved onto more advanced training.E-collars are an emotive one,not everyone agrees with them, everything has its uses as i said earlier in thread.Yes bambislayer even candles and iron/night sights.I still feel they are an unecessary training aid if you spend time and bond with dog.Different if you get a dog which has habits ingrained when you get it,eg chasing sheep at 2 years old

You are very niave if you beleive that.

I don't know a pro trainer without one;)

As they say , you can't kid a kidder

Way of thread and topic , but if a night sight , makes night shooting more effective and humane, then why the hell not use it, it's a lot better than a candle and iron sights.
Yeah wet behind the ears me, got a couple of dogs i'll put aginst anything in the field though, must be pure luck.
I know Aubrey who won the british championship last year and he aint got a collar, Tony Price from Tawnyhill and he aint got a collar.
I tell ya though ya reasoned argument has persuaded me, I'm off to buy one tomorrow, I'm sure it will come in handy when me dog decides not to retrieve to me from a lake, never know I might get a few floating fish into the bargain.

OK so the run of this thread is that
some people have electric collars and some don't
some people like them and some don't
some people try and influence others nicely and some don't
some people just keep poking the beehive with the stick and wonder why the get stung and some don't

Les you said three pages ago you have had enough and yet you continue to post in this thread

No can we please move on

Did the guys who started the breeding of our dogs have electric collars.does a mother wolf zap her young.think like a dog and you shouldn't need to zap em.why use one in the first place if the dog is coming on fine if dog isn't coming on try going back a few steps and persevering rather than a percieved quick fix

Just out of interest I spent two weeks dog sledding with possibly the best musher in Norway. we had 40 huskies with us and if a fight broke out he seperated the dogs and bite the offending dog in the ear- just like a dominant wolf would.
Dogs dont use whistles or drag their pups back to where they offended, they nip them with their teeth (in a loving caring way) ie they dont draw blood, just enough pressure to get the message across. To watch a single man control 12 dogs through woodland, mountin and blizzard with nothing more than his voice was amazing.

Some of us arent lucky enough to have access to deer parks or friendly game keepers at the time (its a bit like finding your first stalking) so we have to go with whats available and use a bit of common sense. Hindsight is a great trainig tool and the best advice usually comes after the event and rarely before.

OK this thread is about done to death and has now reached the time when reasoned argument has given way to insults and name calling. I am declaring the playground closed on this one.
