EU Firearms Pass, Post EU Exit

Hi there,

We have just received confirmation from the UK government that UK citizens will not have access to the EU Firearms Pass after 01 Jan 2021.

European firearms requirements from 1 January 2021

James

Along with banning trophy hunting, Boris and his mates seem pretty intent on knocking the UK fieldsports industry on the head.

And to think that before he got elected, some on here were saying he would be the champion of fieldsports

So now to travel to Germany with firearms I need to get import permits for either Netherlands or France and Belgium, as well as Germany.

With the EFP it was easy.

Still Brexit / COVID / Tories have made it simple as hunting overseas will not be affordable - clients are all moving to mainland Europe. And not being part of the EU, nor having an EU passport cannot continue to advise them post Jan 1st.

And no I cannot afford the €250,000 to get a Maltese passport as all the Boris supporters are doing.

yes somewhat irritating

An acquaintance used to comment years ago pre EFP how easy it was for him to travel to Germany to shoot. I don't know if things have changed significantly since EFP days but if it simply reverts back to the old system as it was then it shouldn't cause too much bother.

I can't see it presenting any real problems for those travelling to France to shoot once the covid issues have settled down a bit if you obtain your temporary permis de chasse (with the correct dates) in advance. You will need this to hunt anyway.

Perhaps we are looking for problems that may not exist, though I have to admit that the EFP worked well for us British shooters if not for Europeans coming the other way to shoot.

No problem at all. We use the EU firearms passport and I apply for a Visitors Firearms Certificate with the scottish Police, send them my passport and application with a sponsor endorsement, pay the fee, and declare the firearm to custom upon arrival. It's a very straightforward and painless bureaucracy. I'm under the impression that it is mostly to ensure I have a legal purpose for bringing the firearm and a safe way to store it when in-country.

Why will it knock the UK fieldsports industry on the head? As far as I can see nothing will change for people visiting the UK to hunt as they will still have to apply for a visitor permit the same as before

It’s going to be nothing but ball ache!

I have said it all along well done for all those who voted for brexit!

all those who like to travel to the continent to hunt with their own rifles is now an almighty head ache

round of applause you have all fu(ked my continental hunting right up 👏👏👏👏😔

There are bigger things at stake than your hunting trips.
Get a grip man for goodness sake!

Just out of interest it is the European Firearms Pass, not the European Union Firearms pass! It works for Norway (outside the EU) for Switzerland (outside the EU). If you are going to moan please get your facts right.

David.

All my stuff is on my German efp so when I land into France I am covered and with my UK cert I am covered here too. But post Brexit will IMO tax many regular travellers patience who like to go over for a winter boar fix.
