Fac air is it worth it ?

Those .177 pellets must be going supersonic. I didnt think it was viable to go as high as 20ft lb without getting turbulance problems, but it obviously works for your gun.

The Americans seem to use a lot of 177 and 20 at higher power levels . at least they did when i was into FT and the HFT was just starting . I have only owned 20 and 177 at sub 12 so cant say much other than they dropped knock-over targets pretty easy

Why might anyone turn in a rifle because it was 22LR, in favour of buying PCP and all the kit to fill the thing ? The second hand market doesn't stand such things high enough value and FAC air to add is really easy to add for existing owners of a 22RF . They dont eat anything if they sit in the cabinet and they dont de-grade .
Personally i am using more small CF than .22 rf but the .22 RF rifles are not sat degrading in the safe . A few years in the safe unused and un-serviced they come to no harm and the FEO is not really going to bother much . I have found PCP air generally will have issues with seals etc when left unloved and unused .
Hey , i have no real axe to grind here i have kept and used airguns for about 45 years or so PCP and spring ( i favour a tuned springer ) shot FT and HFT in comps , killed a lot of stuff with them - still do ! Cant see me ever again putting a PCP back on my ticket. If others are super keen that's all well and good though , they might like messing and fixing stuff as part of their hobby ?

No i just asked "why turn in a 22 LR ? You already had ?" I mean its not like a SH .22 is generally worth a great deal of money.
I get why many get their first FAC granted for air power , its more familiar to many and many forces prefer to grant am FAC rated airgun to new applicants .

dont need to , anyone can review a members past postings . If you feel it suits you better , go at it . However the 22 LR is far more versatile than you really seem to know at this current point in time . For someone shooting small plots of land shooting nothing larger / harder to kill than a rabbit I am in agreement in the fact they are useful and fun . However the 22 LR does the same and more for less money and maintainance and remains the worlds most popular firearm .

I’m toying with the idea of an fac airgun mainly for squirrel control , I have a rimfire bit for safety reasons that’s out if shooting squirrels in trees , I’ve tried a moderated .410 with limited success , I know people recommend gas guns but to be honest I hear of nothing but problems with them , are there any fac springers that are worth it ?

Hi james, I personally love my FAC Wildcat (around 30ftlb) So versatile for taking everything from rats & squirrels to rabbits and crows/pigeons, and with the confidence of a good knockdown with head or body shots. Plus the added benefit of a flatter trajectory.
However fac springers can also do the business. Check out Kieth Warren on utube, - "Dropping Pigeons With Gamo Air rifle".

You wont get much more from one and unless its using the venom or Air arms type system its going to be harder to shoot well . Correctly placed body shots are fine on birds at sensible ranges when you know the aim points . BTW yes i have done a lot from sub 12 to just over 30 ftlb ( the higher energy PCP) 15 ft lb ish is the sweet spot . Correct placement is the most relevant bit , making up for inaccuracy with power is doomed to fail big time !
