firearms incident

And I don't think there is a requirement to produce a valid police-issued certificate when buying bullets either, is there? (Not FMJs anyway).

I think Your right infact anybody can go into an army surplus store and pick up a bullet belt made up of inert 7.62x51 cases and head to put around there waists. Although I'm sure the dealer I buy my FMJ's from checks that I have permision to posses live ammunition in that paricular calibre before he sells them to me.

i heard the sky news bloke mention that the person who done this has up to 4 licences for firearms, ( if only they new the truth of how it all works ?)

and then heard a shooter on the Jeremy vine show state that he had been shooting for 30 years and he then stated you cannot get a firearm without being a member of a shooting club ?? (done us no favour there)

but to cap it all was this one on the same show.

i guy emailed Jeremy from some place in Plymouth i think, stating that he could get Jeremy any gun within the hour should he like one, and he was offered

wait for this,

a Russian sniper rifle that is accurate up to 1" at 3000 mtrs and that would only set you back £2,000, just where do these people come from, dream on,

the final comment maid by another shooter was that guns don't kill people,,people kill people,

sad news indeed, my thoughts are with the families at this time.

If it's reported correctly then it also looks as if Simon Clarke of BASC is also giving erroneous information out:

""In the case of bullets, the type and number that can be purchased is limited and those purchases are recorded by the firearms dealer and on the purchaser's certificate."

Not correct, even in the case of expanding bullets/projectiles according to the HO Guidance Ch. 3.17

He might want to check his facts before writing to the MP, and maybe establish if he thinks 'bullets' equate to 'ammunition' as it makes a BIG difference to the initial statement issued by the Member.

FMJ's loose yes no licence requirement, FMJ's as part of a round you need permission to buy/hold that calibre and number

A terrible tragedy that should not have happened, our heart felt sympathies go out to all those affected.

On the other hand having read the scare mongering rubbish written by an MP regarding childrens medicine being harder to aquire than ammunition  where in gods name do these MP's get their information from? and to think we pay that idiots wages with our taxes!! god help us all when people like that are trying to run the country:shock:

3.17, and indeed all that section refers to prohibited arms and ammunition.

Simon was clearly referring to 10.39

The certificate requires the following entries as to ammunition:
a) the maximum amount authorised to be possessed at any one time; and
b) the maximum amount authorised to be purchased at any one time.

With respect Malc, that's not what he is reported as saying. It's bullets he mentioned. He's either an idiot who a) doesn't know the difference between bullets and ammunition; or b) a bit shrewd, and realises that you can actually buy some types of bullet without restriction and is using the fact for his own political purposes.

The devil really is in the detail.

lets not make any speculations as to what has occured the uninformed media do enough of that, as with mr bird we dont know what has happened in this man's life to make him take the route he has, my sympathy goes out to the family and friends of this poor man.

I don't understand the point you are trying to
make trooper. Can you please elaborate?

Are you referring to the Labour MP making assumptions?

I remember reading the results of a study into uses of weapons over the last 100 years that the death penalty was in use in this country, knives 68%, firearms 1.5%.
